Spent the weekend removing the engine and gearbox for some winter improvements. I want to fit a gearbox heat exchange oil cooler and wondered what has been tried and tested and works. Also what size cooler do I need and where is the best place to fit it?

My car is a 2004 3R - the one with the orange/white and black graphics.

Lots of opinions on this , I fitted my pump as close to the box and the radiator in the passenger Side pod , I also fitted a temp gauge so I could keep an eye on the temps .
So far has worked fine .
My rad is about 9" square .

Thanks I saw some pictures of your set up from a previous thread with the cooler in the sidepod. Are you still running that set up? I am looking at a water cooled oil cooler rather than air cooled. Also how can I get details of your fine carbon parts?

Hi ! Yep still running the same setup , my only concern with running a water/oil cooler Is the extra heat being put in the cooling system , have you updated the rad ?

would be good to have a thermostat / ecu to control the pump on and off so you can automatically switch it on only when you need to

Yes Tux rad was replaced last year with Pro Alloy unit. I have found GTO600s topic on this from 2011 and given the confirmation this works fine will run the same Mocal set up.

I just want to say thanks for all your help guys the posts on this forum have been a great help to me understanding what I need to do when working on my Nob. Still lots to do over the next few weeks to complete this winters schedule of work.

This winters work will include a gearbox rebuild, new clutch, oil coolers for both gearbox and engine, front floor removal(did the main floor reseal last year) and fitting of fills under front wheel arches as well as adding some more air outlets to the rear clam. Plus whatever else I find needs attention.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the costs of some of these things? I'm interested in some cooling too.

Looking at Demon Tweeks catalogue the Mocal oil cooler is £213.71, the oil pump £143.87 and the temperature switch £11.26. All plus the dreaded VAT. Plus whatever pipes and fittings you want to use.

Other catalogues are available and prices may be higher or lower!!

All the pipes and fittings are expensive if you go for the quality bits.

Do you guys that run pumps have it on a thermostatic switch then, I thought it was a switch on the dash or is this an override?
