I was not altogether surprised when Admiral recently refused to insure a Proalloy ic upgrade but wondered if anyone else has found them more agreeable? I guess it will be Adrian Flux or similar for me.

Admiral will cover almost all upgrades, EXCEPT and intercooler.... I had a major bust up with them 3-4 years ago when they convinced me to take out the policy based on all the Nobles mods meaning all my other cars were moved onto a multi car with them... only for them to realise they won't cover intercoolers and thus wouldn't cover the Noble. I wasn't happy as it was their mistake.

Im with competition car insurance now... I recommend them highly.

They don't do track days either. Otherwise I'd've been happy with £165 premium (pre-intercooler)

I just got told they won't insure me as well!!!!!

So now I am shopping around for others. Real shame as my insurance was only £320!!! with zero excess!!!!

IS the alarm system in the Noble Cat 1 or Cat 2????

Because of the intercooler - they are saying it is a high risk item.

It is a real problem for me now. My insurance with Admiral was £320 with £100 excess. Now the cheapest I am getting quoted is £983 with a lot more excess over £550!!!

Disaster!!!

The bizarre thing about this is that you're not gaining anymore power, effectively just keeping it to roughly standard power on hot days. I could understand it if it was with an exhaust change as well, where the total gains may go over standard power.

Been on the phone the whole day ... what a mare!!!

Anyway all sorted now. I was going to go with Mannings as they were the best price plus the addition of unlimited track days. But in reality I don't go to the track enough to warrant that.

In the end my friend recommended Sky Insurance and I managed to get it down to £560 all mods declared. Which was the best by far (obviously with no track days).

So not too bad. Still this intercooler has cost me an additional £240 per year in premiums just for the Noble.

It has also affected my other cars as their premimums have increased as the number of cars I have on my multicar has now decreased. So I had to shop around for them. Now I am with 3 different insurance companies!!!!!

All this for an intercooler.

Did you try Henderson Taylor? They've been best for me in the past couple of years.

would they really know what a standard intercooler looks like?

Dont have the old intercooler. Plus the intercooler housing has been modified.

I think if you had an accident and they inspected the car and your intercooler has the words pro alloy stamped all over it they might figure it out. Plus is it worth it?

Lose £30k insurance over a couple £100 uplift? Not worth the risk in my opinion. Life has taught me not to cut corners.

I asked them for a multi car quote a few years back and they refused on the basis I had a different intercooler. A few days later somebody rang me back and asked why I didn't go with them. They referred it to the underwriter and then agreed to cover it after I explained it was mapped to exactly standard power , it just stopped heat soak. (Mine is the noblemods one.)

They have renewed it twice since, and the noble is the cheapest car on there to insure which is bizarre given one of the other cars is a 2003 C class merc worth nothing.

Ah, so it is possible if you can get in contact with a human and not a computer!

Wanted cover for my 19 y.o. son on his MGBGT. As he's been a named driver on my wife's car (with Admiral) he had potentially 2 years NCB available as they honour named drivers. Computer said "no" as the risk for 'vintage car' and 'young driver' didn't correllate. But when we got through to someone willing to help, they referred to Admirial's underwriter and said that's fine sir. So what with the multicar discound and 2 years NCB my 19 y.o. got cover for £350. Result, but you have to be persistent.
