Sprints and Hillclimbs?
Discussion
Over the summer I've been to a couple of track evenings at a local hillclimb track and although I thought the Noble would be a bit big and heavy it actually turns out to be pretty competitive! The times I'm posting are up there with the bike engine westfields caterhams etc. So much so that I've been thinking about entering the Scottish lowland championships next season!
Plan is to spend the winter doing a few suspension mods and getting the geo fully set up to sharpen the turn in as I'm getting some pretty bad understeer, also need to look at changing tyres and brake pads as the pilot sport cups and RS29s I'm currently running need a good bit of heat in them to work well.
So question is anyone ever done this kind of thing in their Noble?
Any recommendations for a good tyre that works well from cold?
Same goes for brake pads.
Cheers!

Hi Dave, Pirelli Trofeo R is easily the stickiest tyre available, you would need to stiffen the suspension to cope with the extra grip. One problem you do have, asking any tyre to work from cold is a lot, other than on a hot summers day. To get bore front end bite, you could raise the rear of the car between 5-10 mm.
Hi Dave, I've done a lot of Sprints & the best tyre by far is Toyo R888's. They come in really quick & wilth the right dampers will cure your understeer which you are having due to not getting the tyres up to temp, as for pads use Pagid RS15 which come in quicker than RS29's.

Thanks guys!
Actually had R888's before the pilots and I agree they were very grippy but I still had the understeer so think I need to get the geo and ride height checked?
Dampers are M400 dynamics that I had fitted last year so mabye there could be an issue fitting these on the GTO3 wishbones? Do you know if wisbone mounting points are the same between GTO3 and M400?
Thought understeer might be because M400 setup uses an ARB but see a few people have removed it anyway.

Agree with AW, changing the rake will help dial out understear, also remember, increasing bump increases understear, increasing rebound will also increase understear, so you may have to reduce that first and see how it improves, also maybe a little less tyre pressure at the front, hope that helps.
Front arbe does give a little understear, for me though without it its to pointy and increases overstear, so really depends on ur style of driving and ehat u like, i prefer a little understear to overstear, faster out the corners

Great Stuff Dave , another vote for the 888's brilliant tyre for sprinting as they warm up quick !
Does the under steer get better as the speed increases ? How much front camber are you running ?
Still got your old R888's in the garage Si! Totally killed the rears but fronts still had 3mm tread on them when I changed to the pilots so might just buy a set of 888s for the back! Does the under steer get better as the speed increases ? How much front camber are you running ?
Understeer worse at low speed, all corners are 2nd or 3rd gear top speed is around 80mph its very twisty and tight!
Uprights are totally standard so no change to stock camber.

Unfortunately shocks are not adjustable as standard M400 Team Dynamics units.
Car feels really planted on high speed tracks, just need to get it set up for the tight twisty low speed sprint and hillclimb tracks!
This is a vid of a twincharged 600hp Evo5 doing a 46s run up my local track:

I'm running in the low 50's with bad understeer and only a few runs to learn the track so think I can get a good few seconds off my current times with the right setup!
Bring it on!

He is running a little more than 600bhp Dave! Think it's more around 750bhp at the moment and will be more next year (larger turbo). He is also similar weight to the noble at approx 1000kg but obviously has 4wd.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIGGajhZuo0
Great to see that the noble is still quick up the hill! With some mods and maybe slicks you could be chasing him down.
Lol bet those 888's are getting a bit hard !!
So Dave , winter job list
Get all hubs machined so you can get more camber .
Send rear tie bars too me so I can get them modified so you can adjust the rear toe .
Stiffer springs cause the understeer do either Adjustable dampers or softer front springs .
Bigger splitter with infil panels
Vent the front and rear wheel arches
Bigger rear defuser .
Taller rear wing mounts
Trip to Center Gravity for full chassis setup
That should keep you busy for a while

Ouuft!! That must be rapid now!! Let's hope I'm in a different group class !! Great to see that the noble is still quick up the hill! With some mods and maybe slicks you could be chasing him down.
