hi looking to get some info regarding minimum thickness of front disc before skimming at present they are 28.5 mm and am told they remove 1mm in the process ,would the discs still be within the limits many thanks

If someone told me they were going to remove 1mm without even looking at the car I would be going somewhere else, they should be taking off the absolute minimum of material to true the discs, maybe 2-4 thou, if your car had 20 thou (0.5mm) of runnout on each side of the discs it would be undrivable.

In the build manual it says new fronts are 30mm, the machine to thickness is 29mm and minimum thickness is 28mm. It sounds like yours may have already been skimmed or do you have a bit of a lip round the outside?

Thanks for replies. Yes there is a small lip on the discs. Will have a word with the garage again to make sure they only remove the minimum amount. Perhaps the bloke I chatted to was. Just answering phone and not familiar with the process

Had all 4 discs skimmed on the car , great job took about 2 hours and cost around £130 ..... I took some new pads with me and they fitted them at the same time.... I was well happy!,
