My fantasy engine already exists!
Discussion
Since the death of my Hayabusa powered Chesil Speedster in 2006, and my ownership of the Noble; I've often dreamed of a V8 engine based on the Busa heads. I fantasized about this engine being the replacement for a clapped out Noble engine.
Well, first of all, I found out it exists and is in fact manufactured by Radical. They call it the RPE RP-V8 and it produces 500hp, which I believe is non turbo. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powertec_RPA
Now I know nothing about engines, all I do know is I just loved the Busa lump in the Chesil, the sound it made, and changing gear sequentially at 10500 revs. So, those of you who do know about engines, what do you think? The dimensions are on the link page and other basic information. Would there be an advantage in running this lump in a Noble should it fit? I imagine putting a turbo in would make it quite outrageous.
Go on, shoot me down and tell me it would cost a fortune, be less reliable than the Ford lump and the whole idea could only be that of an idiot!!!

Tried and tested then!! What do you think about one of those dropped in a Noble? Would transverse work?It would be interesting to compare performance from that engine in a M12 against the performance from the Ford engine, or even the M600 for that matter. £30k is a lot of money, but how does that compare to the money spent by the current 'big power' boys? The reality is you would be the owner of a unique and very capable car, so what price can you put on that? You could be running an M12 with M600 performance for possibly less than £80k including your donor car.
I think it would be a great engine with some turbos, make big power, rev hard and make the car blisteringly quick... certainly much much quicker than the M600.
isn't this fitted to the arial atom?
However it wouldn't be a GT car anymore imo and you would want to lighten quite a few other arrears to make the most out of the awesome engine.
Most significant flaw in the plan is cost... it won't be anything like £30k as when I last looked that was the cost of just the engine. the engine in my car isn't the biggest cost of me getting the power, its all the other mods that add up, gearbox, clutch, fuel, water, turbos, intercooler etc etc... Id estimate £50-60k.
In truth Id not swop the engine in my Noble for one as its the wrong car for the engine.

I think I understand what you mean, everyday driving would mean a screaming engine at 30mph? I had this with the Chesil. I loved it & the noise, but perhaps in time it could've become painful!isn't this fitted to the arial atom?

Andy, you beat me too it, as soon as I thought V8 bike derived engine....if money was no object and you like very expensive gear boxes, Attom has it covered. Sounds fantastic, they had one at the FOS a year ago.
