I have put some fairly decent speaker replacements in the doors and a new head unit but wondering if a amp would make much difference? Just want a better sound quality.

If you have fitted good speakers why do you need an amp

I would have thought a/an (active)sub would be a better way to go, I keep meaning to get round to it.

thought a amp was meant to give a better sound for the speakers?

Not necessarily, that would depend on the quality of the amp, however the Noble is a small space if you choose good quality efficient speakers, they will probably be more effective than an amplifier, if you look at the specification of the speaker it should quote efficiency @1 watt@1 meter,@1 kHz, remember that the sound level doubles every 3db. there are lots of speakers out there quoting 90-93db, then its personal taste.

You also need to kill the doors with something like Dynomat to stop them vibrating.

I use an Alpine 50x4 head unit, 4 JL co-axials (doors and pods on shelf) an Alpine under seat(flat) active sub. It's easily good enough, to do better you would need to start cutting the car about.

Answer: No. Whatever tech you fit will sound rubbish once you get moving - especialliy in the Noble. If you really must have studio quality sound then I'd suggest headphones (which are slightly illegal). I have both Bose and HK sound upgrades in my multi-million euro designed cars and even these don't produce great sound at speed.

By all accounts the new Merc C-Class coupe has nailed it though - apparently super quiet inside but you'll need £100K to find out.

Adrian - a bit off topic, but was it you who said a while back you liked to turn up Zomby Woof when you were out in the Noble? No problem if not, I just remember seeing a post from a fellow Zappa fan along those lines. I never had the kit you've got but definitely enjoyed doing the same.

One of my favourites, some great live versions too. All I need is a car to put some dynamat in - knew I'd regret selling.

Stunning Simon. You don't do things by halves then - loving what you've done (you've even sorted the wiper properly!).

Thanks for the jolt - I've thought of other rides but I kinda knew I'd be back one day.

Hmmm.. (goes off to scour classifieds)
