Hi all, I was wondering if anyone new what Ford the engine was from and is it a direct fit? I understand that its Duratec from an ST330, The M12 2.5 was from a ST220 and the M10 2.5 from a Cougar.

No such thing as a ST330.
I believe the 3 litre engine is very similar, but not exactly the same as st220? Isn't it also used in some American SUV or something?
Not sure, but think the 2.5's were based on the ST24's engine?

Never let it be said that any Noble has a Mondeo engine. The engine chosen was for the US Ford production line (not Europe). At that time (2003) it was being fitted to the Ford Maverick ("truck" as you mentioned), a US Jaguar and something else which escapes me right now. So tell them "No, it's a Jaguar truck" if you must wink

I take it you know that the unfinished engines were then shipped to John Noble Motorsport (no relation) for modification then back to Noble for fitment? I was at the factory once when an engine delivery arrived from Noble Motorsport - 6 spanking new Nob engines bolted to sheets of wood on the back of an open pickup truck lovely and soo low-tech - which is why we love Nobles biggrin

Where you may be thinking about the Ford ST220 is perhaps the 6-speed gearbox found in 3Rs and M400s. AFAIR it had its first outing in the ST220 and Lee Noble spied it. It needed some mods for the M12 chassis and the first batch Ford shipped didn't fit so Lee, Woodbines in hand, jumped on a plane to Germany for a chin-wag. All was subsequently corrected.

As always, happy to be corrected on any of the above if you know better. FYI, Lee told me the gearbox story himself.

The engine in the 3l was American sourced, thought it was a warrior but that's my guess rather than fact, they then installed bog standard ST220 cams into the engine so internally it was identical to the ST220 they then changed the connecting rods (to lower cr) and had oil squirters machined into the block.

Externally the engine the used had differnt shape rocker covers, front timing case, fuel rail and inlet manifold to the ST220 but it's thought the ST220 inlet manifold may be better although don't know anyone who has bothered trying.

The M400 had addition of forged pistons and a modification to adjust he timing.

Basically you can't buy a ford, jag or Mazda engine and just bolt it in as internally the noble engine has significant changes..

Remember all above is on,y in relation to the 3l engine.

Thats very interesting thanks and I hadnt realised that they where sourced from America, I know about
john noble in Chesterfield as I spoke to them many years ago about upgrades.

During the period of Noble stopping servicing andvthem pushing work to the dealer network I had a ford technical expert look at my car and he was pretty sure it was a cougar engine because its chain driven as opposed to belt, like the ST24 (apparently).
