Oulton a non starter!
Discussion
Down at Oulton for away round of Scottish saloons, Friday testing started bad, the car felt unplanted and loose, the brakes felt quite bad, juddering a lot with the new pads and I just couldn't get to grips with the track. Times only just creeping under 2 minutes (full international)
Turned out a loose ball joint I'd spotted and tightened during the week wasn't quite tight enough, so nipped that up and got out again, car felt much more stable but brakes were still off but just stayed out and drove through it, the pads settled in and brakes started to perform and the faster I went the better they got.
By end of last session I was flying round about 7 seconds clear of the next SMRC car doing 1.45,06 until I punctured took a bit much kerb at the first chicane and pop was sliding along the grass on 3 wheels... No damage done. The British GT ginetta GT4 cars were a second or two faster and think with a bit more time I'd be matching them. After my puncture I went out on Mikes old compos with trofeo r all round and done 1:50s
I managed to source a pair of new rears for yesterday but in the morning I couldn't get then fitted in time for quali, so went out on front slicks, trofeo R's on the rear! It worked quite well, great turn in but the rear was a tad loose. It got me qualified on pole position with a 1.47 over 2 seconds clear of the Westfield and 4-5 of the next saloon cars.
At the end of quali my car conked out and wouldn't restart. Myself and a few others tried to get it started, spent about 3 hours on it but no joy and missed both races
It was sparking, getting fuel pressure and turning no problem, after a while trying to start it, the fuel pumps then stopped priming from the ecu, so we put a live to the pumps and they continued to work but we just couldn't get the car to fire up. Must be ecu/injector control or a wire damaged somewhere we couldn't see.
At least when I go back for GT cup I'm up to speed with the track!
