Yoko A048 Compounds

Hi Guys,

It appears the Yokos come in soft, medium and medium/hard compounds.

What do people that use them generally choose?

Not a clue- but with other compounds- say the R888s- the softest ones really do wear at an alarming rate. I believe the AO48s are supposed to be a little longer lasting than 888s anyway......

Guess it depends on how much the cost of 4 new tyres is to you To most of us, the £800-£1k is a lot!

My 1200kg track car uses mediums, I was told the softs would be destroyed in no time so I would suggest mediums. They hold up OK on the track so would be OK for road use except in standing water where they are borderline dangerous.

What track car is that DG? not a noble surely? I thought even the later ones were 1100kgs

Some stock nobles have been weighed at 1200kgs...3rs are the heaviest due to sound deadening.

Pretty sure my 048s are hard compound, will check later... Recon soft would last 1000 miles on my car and I don't have F1 budget for tyres lol

As it happens, I could only get the medium/hard in time anyway ( I wanted them for Silverstone tomorrow - which now may be wet )

Sorry should have been clearer on that, it's a Lancer GSR. My tyre supplier (who really knows his onions) told me that the mediums should be used for road cars as the softs will overheat and disintegrate very quickly, the softs are reserved for caterhams etc, basically stuff half the weight. After speaking to the various paddocks I attend this advice seems pretty accurate. I've not used them on the Noble, but if you do don't use them in heavy rain!!

Ah I see that makes sense.

I think even if they are working within their optimum temps the soft ones will still wear very rapidly!

I really can see the appeal of a caterham- 500kgs must keep the wear and tear costs down massively.
