From the ECU thread, I take it that apart from Optimax cleaning properties, there is absolutely nothing to gain from super. 95 is the norm then?

My owners handbook reads :- To achieve maximum performance and efficiency, it is recommended that the vehicle is refuelled with Super Unleaded (98 RON) fuel. However, in circumstances where this is not available, the vehicle will perform satisfactorily on standard (95 RON) unleaded fuel.

You pays your money and you takes your choice! Martin.

Martin, I believe this to be in error - Simon Hucknall (Micknall) at Noble corrected it as 95 RON (EN228) is the recommended fuel for, at least, the 3R.

Gracious Amigo!

Rob,
When did Simon say that? (bearing in mind I received my OM only 16 days ago).

Another thing that should be sorted out regarding the manual is running-in times. The manual says 4k revs & Mole Valley say 3k revs, but while talking to Lee he says that anything he builds personally doesn't need running in. (Does the last mean that the engines aren't built as good as they could be?)

Anyway, the car has had it's first service and is going great. I had a run in with a Suzuki GSXR 600 and, while I admit I got the drop on him, after about 2 minutes he gave up (the road was quite twisty).

One thing I hadn't learned from test drives and driving Andy's car was how easy it is to step the back out. My driving style seems to be 'get the breaking done while in a straight line and accelerate through the bend'...is this the best way? or should I be breaking later and while starting the turn-in? Any experts out there?

I still haven't taken her over about 6200rpm. Do you think I should wait a bit for flat-out mode or is it OK after 1200 miles on the clock?

It seems the more I drive the car the more I don't know! Anyway, I'm loving it so I suppose it doesn't matter.

Oops, gone WAY off-thread.

Martin.

Re braking and turning - not usually a good idea but I do it a bit! Why do you care anyway, you can't go over 10mph around Puerto Banus marina in "pose mode" anyway! LOL

Right Ash, for me its Regular Unleaded all the time and I try to fill up with Optimax a few days before, during and after a track day.

I really would not want to put Tesco stuff in mine! I'm sticking to Optimax or 98 Ron, Super or whatever from a proper petrol company!
Martin, agree with your classic slow in fast out technique, but the acceleration of my 3R is mindblowing - getting used to it, but very easy to get into trouble if you are not careful. You really pile into corners but it still gets round: trouble is you never know what might be waiting for you on the exit! Tried the M400 last week and its even faster (a fraction). Think I need to settle into the 3R first.

Joking about the Tesco bit, but doesn't make sense putting in 97/98 if no performance gain is to be had.

Exactly. I know I'm going to be smarting every time I visit the petrol station having got used to Elise petrol abstinance.

Can I stick the boot in again by saying 98RON is 85 cents (Euros) a litre ( 60 pence) on the Costa del crime...I mean Sol! Martin.

Martin can I just cackle when your car needs a dealer and you are stuck for anything but nail bars opened by the wives of criminals on the run?

Your car was spotted by a selocer today and mentioned in passing! Apparently it sounded lovely and he spotted you about an hour ago.

I must say that Lotus owners seem like a really nice bunch, never had anything but 'thumbs ups' when passing.

You driving all the way Martin, or is there some ferry that goes down? I've been looking at Jerez. Looks a right good circuit. Hacky down in the Noble with a week or so stuff doesn't sound like a fun idea.

Cheers

I was going to catch the Plymouth/Santander ferry tomorrow, but the ferry company changed the sailing time so I've cancelled. Now I'm going to fly out tomorrow afternoon, get the house purchase sorted and fly back on Saturday. Then I'll fly back there on on the 3rd of September to get all my stuff moved in, and THEN I can think about coming back for the car!
Why is life never easy?
Jerez looks like MAJOR fun. As soon as I've investigated the trackday potential I'll report back. There's also a track called Gaudix that the boys on Gibralter use.
Anyway, one way or another you can look forward to a few days without me. Martin.

What is the cost of posting a few gallons a day?

Who knows, could be a money maker.

Cigs, Booze and Petrol!

Oh, and stop being smug.
