Just got back from the factory from picking my car up - and took the opportunity to sit in an M400 whilst I was there. I want one! It just has a feeling of being a bit more finished about it - I am sure that just comes from those fantastic seats, and the much improved gear change - since I didn't drive it any where. I wasn't told that the gear change could not be retrofitted to a 3R - but apparently it hasn't been done yet.

By the way - if your car is a flat red #180 - then it looks stunning - and I made sure my shoes were clean before sitting in it!

As for my car - how glad am I of the warranty - it only went back to have a few problems fixed - but the warranty saved be well in excess of a few thousand pounds! It is amazing what new exhausts and turbo (amongst other things) can do to the performance. I am sure it never drove this well when I first got it! Third gear - tail out up the slip road to the motorway was enough to remind me this is not the 1.7l diesel I have had for the last week.

Thanks to the factory - who carried out the service, and fixed all the problems - and delivered me back a pristine car in excellent working order! Now where can I go for a drive???

Adam, are you saying that the revised gear-shift IS retro-fittable to the 3R or not?!

I didn't quite get a definative answer to this - but I will follow it up. Realistically I can see no reason why it could not be fitted. It can only be the likage beneath the the gear lever or that mounted to the 'box that has changed. The gear lever is still in the same place - and so is the engine! - and it must still be cable operated.

It's not that I really dislike the change on the 3R - but on the M400 it is just so light - you can slick it through the 'box with your fingertips! At the right price I think it will be a worthwhile change to make.

Hmmm, an "easy upgdade" I wish! It isn't just the re-routed linkage, the tunnel is re-sized, etc. - I fear a major upgrade that wouldn't warrant the expense!

Yes, I've driven the new linkage and its not amazing... its just how it should always have been - easy and snick - I WANT ONE!!!

Aren't people overstating the change in tunnel size? Its a few mills smaller on each sidea and thats it. Also space is hardly going to be an issue as the new one is smaller (very marginally).

Then again I've got no idea what the accessability is like.

M400 does sound a great car from all accounts - but my only real complaint about my M12 now is the gearchange - so I'll watch to see if any upgrade is possible - but we were told firmly "No" earlier!
