Has anybody herd of operation crackdown?
Well if you havnt some of you will do very soon its where the genral public contact the police if they think you are speeding and then plod ring you up and tell you not to scare the life out of Sunday drivers going to the garden center!
Bloody Police state! Im all for driving senserbly with due care and attention, but it looks like " THE MEEK SHALL INHERIT THE WORLD" well at least our bloody awfull roads!
Oh and you get a letter saying if anybody reports you again within 12 months they will take action.
I did ask them could they send me the qulifications that the member of the public had for assesing speed, that put them on the back foot i also asked the age of the person who reported to them stating that young children and O.A.Ps have trouble calculating speeds... that wound them up even more!!
They gave up in the end saying its a flawed new system ,
But be aware be very aware anybody can report you even if you were not speeding but look on the bright side if you dont like the people next door just report them for speeding evrybodys qulified and its only a phone call away to your local plod!!

This happened to me last week, as Inflict will support. :-)
Trundling along to the pub last weekend, catch up with a line of classic (old classic, not e-type era) all doing about 30 on a main country road, coast is clear, so overtake them all an off I go into the distance. Arrive at pub, eat Sunday roast with a pint of Bombardier, then the old bill walk in, was a chat with the Land Lord.
Then the Landlord comes over... Is that Ferrari outside anyone's on this table?? Every points at me giggling.
So I go outside, in the same way I did at school after being naughty. PC plod asks all the usual b
ks, and informs me that there had been a report from a member of the public complaining that I had driven past them "dangerously" at over 120mph! And that they had been looking for me for an hour, and just happened to drive into the pub car park I was at and spotted the fez.
First of all, who are these people who just have to complain about everything? The road was straight, nothing was coming, and they would not have know the difference if I was doing 60 or 140mph! Even if I was doing 60 ... Which I wasn't... Why do they feel like they have to ring the Police to inform them?!
And I bet the tosser did not ring them on hands-free in his 1930s motor car!
Anyway i gave the copper some spiel about how I live on a track and why would I need to drive fast of the roads etc etc, and he said, sorry for interrupting your Sinday dinner, and that he was hoping for some sort of exciting chase. Ha... Next time

I had a police visit quite a few years back when an elderly person decided to undertake me on a junction and ran himself off the road hitting the kerb when I didnt give way the reported me... I was young with a sports car so clearly I was in the wrong and needed telling so.
pissed me off loads at the time as it was the time lol
if I get pulled up via this new public reporting method I will ask to see the calibration of the equipment and evidence that that the user was qualified to use it correctly.
all in all I think its not a bad idea actually... it will make the police be pro active for some road users who are genuine poor/dangerous drivers not just the speeders.

This is quite interesting, I live in a sleepy 30 mph residential road with cars parked on one side, so no margin for error, for some reason it has recently become a bit of a rat run, especially 3 series BMW’s and Audi A4’s, they turn into the road and wind it up the hill to about 60. Several neighbours have called the police with descriptions, registration numbers, witnesses etc, the response is always “there is nothing we can do, we don’t have the resources” hence my earlier comment
It will work for the youngsters wheel spinning around housing estates and in danger of running over little kids, for us though who keep it sensible and have the experience to know how to handle the plod I don't think it will carry any weight.
I'm pretty sure we all keep it to the correct roads and overtake with due consideration, when overtaking a line of cars it makes sense to do it fast, sorry but you don't want to be hanging around in the opposite lane too lon and its very easy to be doing 120mph by the time you pass the car at the front of the pack.
The actual problem is that people do not leave overtaking gaps, they sit right behind the car I front without any ability to get past, which leaves us no choice but to get past the full line in one go and as quickly as possible.

It would seem that this is only in Sussex http://www.sussexsaferroads.gov.uk/operation-crack...
I guess the point here is that as long as they clobber those that poodle along at 30mph in a 60mph zone (as happens round my way quite regularly), and those that sit in the middle lane doing 50mph etc etc, boy racers etc, then it would be a sensible way to assist the police and improve driving generally.
I would imagine a fair few of us do the odd slightly dodgy overtaking manouvre because our cars have the power to do it, and under this "operation" would get a visit from the police whereas the same manouvre by an under powered focus or maybe someone in a bmw/audi etc would not be reported. This is simply because supercars etc are more noticeable and people seem to believe ownership of one means you are a dangerous driver. Jealousy would affect their opinion and desire to cause you problems.
It's a sad world.

Coincidentally, or ironically, this saturday I overtook a muppet doing 30mph on a 60mph A-road (despite being a straight road). i was in my freelander. Didnt get flashed/visited.
later in the day, same stretch of road, in the noble, overtook a van doing 45mph. Got flashed.
WTF ??
perhaps he just liked my car....???????

I had some cyclist wave stupidly telling me to slow down the other day while in my M5.... I wasnt going that quick and it was a 60mph limit, but I was giving the car its healthcheck redline visit in 1st and 2nd gear so was at over 8000rpm with straight through exhaust, wasn't even accelerating that quick.
Its often only because the car is loud and being revd that they believe you were being reckless.
