Hi Everyone

I hope you all dont mind but i will be hanging around this forum for a while, i hope to be buying a M12 GTO R in the near future but for the first time in my life im going to do a lot of research instead of jumping in with both feetsmile

I know a few guys on here and have already spoken to them for a bit of info but hope to pick up as much as i can from all you current owners.

Ownership for me will be for shows and weekend blats with the family etc, im not going to go down the tuning route (been there done that and work in the trade).

Please, what should i be looking for when i start looking at a few cars? Im ok with the spanners so i dont mind doing bits myself but want to avoid a major rebuild etc.

thanks Kyle

Welcome Kyle,

To answer your question (as everyone else hasn't bothered wink):

A 3R is very much a sorted car. IMHO this is what I would go for,

Make sure it has the 6spd box (most do)
Make sure it has an LSD (most have)
Make sure it has after market exhaust or pay to have one fitted
If it has the exhaust then make sure pump and wiring has been upgraded.
If it has had the exhaust then it has probably had a little remap to get the most out of it. If not then get it done or car could run lean.

Not essential but the following additions would be good or you could do these over time.

Ally breather
Ally Hard pipe kit
uprated IC
reseal floor
do tunnel mod

Other than that most other things are cosmetic and track related.

Hope that helps

Correct. The early 3Rs didn't have either the 6 speed box or the TDS. If you didn't spec them, you didn't get them.

Just to add to Bondy's point - a 6 speeder will have the ATB diff fitted from the off. A 5 speeder could be spec'd with an ATB or it could have been fitted later on but if not then its an open diff which WILL let go, it just depends when.

Aftermarket exhaust not stricly necessary. Apart from the obvious visual checks, also check that the top silencer box bracket is solid, or has been modified. Many hold up just fine. These are commonly known as "chocolate brackets" wink

Think my bracket is made out of tissue paper, lost count the number of times it's been welded, now exhaust has cracked where it enters the box, explained this to the good lady and she said, oh dear you need a new exhaust smile

thanks you very much for all the information its very helpful!!!

What ecu is fitted on a Noble M12 GTO R? Is there software available to live map it?

I have a dyno at work and access to a rolling road so im keen to maximise the stock tune? Most maps have a lot left in them but all you guys will know that.

I did next to no research before buying, I got told to check the condition of the "floor" - it was fine, I didn't get told to check the condition of the exhaust manifold - it wasn't fine !

Apparently a cracked manifold is quite common.

Mine is the plain old GTO though, No 6sp, LSD, etc

cracked manifold is standard equipment, not optional extra smile
