Lee Noble gets class win as he takes production car racing
Noble Automotive’s first ever factory race outing yielded a first in class and fifth overall in last weekend's Yokohama Mid Engine Sportscar Series, held at Brands Hatch.
Driving a near-standard production Noble M400, Noble’s MD, Lee Noble, qualified sixth behind a batch of Lotus Motorsport Exiges and Ariel Atom 2s with an average lap speed of 80.49mph.
After a “botched” start, Noble rapidly stormed through the front-runners and was in second position by the second lap, keeping the Exiges and an Atom at bay for a further twelve laps, which included a best time of 54.40 seconds.
“After that,” said Noble, “a general lack of physical stamina stopped me from keeping pace with the others, and I lost some ground towards the end of the race. But I’ll be fitter and faster next time!”
Not only was this the first official outing of a factory-built car, but it was also Noble’s first race for 16 years. “It was a toe-in-the-water exercise,” he said, “to prove that the new M400 road car was truly competent in race conditions and that I hadn’t lost my nerve. Overall, the car was awesome and proved that this more track-focused version of the M12 can cut it with the best of them.”
The next race in the series will be held at Pembrey on August 22.
