REALLY ANNOYED !!!
Discussion
Hi Folks,
Picked up my Noble on Thursday last week, used the car on thursday afternoon, left in the garage friday, washed on saturday went to go for a spin after hours of polishing and get 200 yards down the road and BANG loud metal grinding noise from the rear passenger side!!! think its the drive shaft or something in the box!!
Now after owning a TVR Tuscan for two years and not having many issues with it this has really disappointed me as I didn't expect anything like this from a Noble.
The car is an 03 with 11,000 miles on it and full service history.
Any thoughts guys???????????????????
I need your help
Dave

Dave, sorry to hear the news!
I presume that you've carried out a visual inspection around the rear wheel well area to look for anything obvious?
Are the handbrake and footbrake working OK? Does the noise happen when braking or all of the time when rolling?
Is the noise still there when you drop the clutch?
Maybe try driving down a (private?) road and then switching off the engine and rolling to see if its engine or drive?
Either way, sounds like you need it booked into the garage!

Sorry to hear of your problem and I'm afraid I have no idea what it is as it could be a number of things. However, if you bought the car from a dealer, they will be obliged to put things right I'm sure. If you bought the car privately then it may be that you have to fund the repairs yourself. If it is the gearbox then check the classifieds on this site as I think there is a brand new one for sale, if not, I must have seen it on Ebay. Good Luck.
I'd second Kevins diagnosis. I had a diff failure in my 03 GTO3 (8000 Miles) and it sounded close to what you are describing.
Eventually had to have a new diff and box (5 speed/standard diff), thankfully covered by warranty..
Hope it is not this serious though David. Will keep my fingers crossed for you mate..

Sorry to hear it was the diff after all. If it is any consolation, mine drove really well after it came home from the doctors surgery (new diff and box).
I looked into a 6 speed/LSD upgade at the time. We had trouble getting hold of a diff, and the 6 speed box, we were told, needs a remap of the engine (at which point I started to get cold feet!!)
I think I remember reading somewhere on jousts site that you could go for the 5 speed box with a upgraded LSD?
Anyway, all the best. Mike
