New rear Diffuser

I have started to mould the new rear diffuer, here are a couple of pics of the progess so far. I still have to splice some fins to the underside, do a bit of filling and trimming etc... it will be painted black and have mesh infill when finished so will not stand out as much as it does on these pics.
The main reason i decided to do this mod was to create a more moulded look around the exhausts and give a closed off effect the the diffuser. I cut the bottom lip off the clam which you cant really see from these pics but basically it gives much more space for air to exit, so with the frame deducting from that the volme of air that can exit is probably evened back out.

But...
Did you think about cutting and rewelding the bit of frame the diffuser attaches to so that the diffuser angle could be more like 10 degrees? That bit of square tubing does not look to me like it adds any strength to the frame, but I'm a sparky, not a structural engineer.

I must admit i think it would look great with centre tail pipes, easily modified at a later date though, just remove the framing to the exhaust on either side and mesh over.
Thanks for the compliment Simon, when i was struggling to make the diffuser i was thinking its about time Simon started on a CF diffuser project, i got fed up with waiting
They do a CF one on reverie but at £1200, it was a bit rich for me, costs almost same as the fastback mod, plus the diffuser was pretty similar to the stock design with added fins and i wanted something that looked more moulded to follow the shape of the rear clam.
I have one question for you with regards to the centre exit, should i create a hole on the forward face of that hump to allow air to pass through? i'm not sure what affect it will have. i..e air taht passes under will get essentially scooped and pass internally over the top and out the back. Will this help draw air out with it? Will it offer additional down force will air being forced over the top of the diffuser, the centre acting like a mini spoiler? I imagine if i dont vent it forward facing then the hump will create uplift?

, but your right the rear clip can be modified with a bit of work, that cross bar is basically tieing the two A frames together which carries the clam and IC, but the cross bar has been grabbed at mid span by some diagonal braces, so it just seemed like too much work to move it back at the time, but what you suggested it actually waht i wanted to achieve initially.Hollowpockets said:

Again, your totally right, tahts what i wanted to do initially, so it sloped up at a nice angle, but i chickened out with the work involved, i did end up doing it mainly for looks in the end.RobP said:
Working on an ali diffuser with Bespoke performance. Mk I showed a 40C reduction in surface diffuser temp compared to OEM diffuser on a standardized hot run. Mk II will be lighter and have an additional fin. Looks much better than standard as well.

Yep...but obviously only when the car is moving and the vanes are working. When idling at standstill there was no difference in temps between ali and oem. The ali diffuser was powder coated black to aid heat absorbtion.Gassing Station | Noble | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
