Knock Knock who's there? Broken Clutch? erm hope not

Recently i've been hearing a slight knocking when sitting in neutral, which goes away when the clutch is pressed, its due for a service and MOT very soon so was planning on getting it sorted then. BTW, I am about as mechanically minded as an average coconut, just to add a bit of context to this...

So, in the mean time I got a mechanic mate to check her over to ensure i won't get any nasty suprises when she goes in, and he has warned me this knocking (which he described as loud) could be a major clutch issue, says i shouldn't drive it, and to brace myself for a hefty bill.

Anyone else here had a similar issue?

Mine used to make a rattley sort of knocking noise when in neutral, It always did it. I got my clutch and gearbox replaced and it still does it a little bit. Nothing seemed worn or broken apart from slight scoring of the slave cylinder sleeve.
I don't know if your noise is the same, it's more rattley than a knock.

Take it to Jestream and let Dave have a listen , he will be able to tell you !!!! Not sure what would make a clutch knock when ticking over , unless the bearing on the output shaft is knackered . Tux

Hope it's not for ya mate. But they do have a bit of chatter threw them. Which would stop when u push the clutch down. Mine used to. Fully rebuilt box. And it was the same. So fingers crossed for ya mate

If the noise goes away when you press the clutch pedal then its probably the release bearing.

That pretty much confirms it then!

If anyone has had this or similar work done I would appreciate it if you wouldn't mind sharing cost details or even an estimate of hours needed.

Jetstream is a bit of a Trek for me, given that she needs a service too and my baby has a log book full of main dealer stamps, is it really worth going up there over Mole Valley?

oh and one last thing, is it safe to drive to the garage, or am i looking at getting a flat bed to transport it.

Many of the six speeds have a rattle in neutral that goes away when you press in the clutch, even with a new throwout bearing/clutch assembly. Your best bet is to take it to a trustworthy shop that has a lot of Noble experience for a second opinion.

mines done it slightly since day dot. Try pressing and depressing the clutch slowly and i bet you cant hear the noise when your completely off the clutch. My clutch + bearing ect was all changed when i bought the car to cure the noise by kerridges (where i bought it from having covered 16,000 miles) and ive done 8,000 miles in 2 years since and it still sounds exactly the same and has never been a problem (with 430rwhp) so i wouldnt worry too much - if it aint broke dont try fixing it lol!

Mine does exactly the same and I had Plans check it out when it was in for it's recent service. The previous owner also had this checked out, so my 3R (with 6 speed box), has had the same for around 6-7000 miles over about 4-5 years, and given the other owners experiencing exactly the same as us I would say leave it alone and don't worry about it.

Mine does it as well if its a bit of a rattly knock. ive had two gear boxes and two clutch's and the noise is still there so i shouldn't worry too much if i were you.
