Does anyone have experience with getting title and registration for the M12 in the US? States may be different but I am trying to determine if I will have a problem with the DOT inspection. I am most interested if people have been questioned on the bumpers. Also, parking lights, turn signals, license plate brackets. But I expect the biggest challenge and problem to solve may be bumpers. Please let me know what you have seen, either problems or successes.

Thanks

Call 1G Racing, they will have the answers for you.

The short of it is that you only have to worry about registering the car as a kitcar for your state, which typically involves an engine inspection, and may possibly involve having your highway patrol verify that the lights are dot-legal (which they are..)

Rich,

Since you are only buying the car less drivetrain (which you arrange to be installed after purchase) the car is not bound by normal regs, so don't worry. The best bet is to call Dean Rosen at 1g Racing (www.1gracing.com) and he will give you chapter and verse about registering the car in the States.

Depends on what state you are in...Go to your state's DMV web site and they shoulkd have all the info for getting a VIN and registration for "home built" or "kit Car"...NYS DMV has all the details on their web site.

Rich,

Look up the requirements on the state DMV site. Also, Greg Robb in Indianapolis has previously done a Noble which is in Chicago. We picked ours up today from Greg and I would recommend him highly, a true class act. Car ran perfectly from Indianapolis to Ann Arbor.

Just started to drive mine here in Florida. About to go out for another run. Registration was fairly painless in this state, and was titled as a "replica car" which was a little easier. No inspection needed, except to verify the chasis number. The chasis number became the VIN, and thus that was it. Then the title could be done, tag has been issued and insurance in place. Vanity plates ( customised ) are on the way.

For some reason, just can't stay out of it, and I see a few road trips on the horizon as soon as I get a few more miles on it. So far, so good.

Bottom line, it varys by state, so some may be easy, and some more difficult, but should not be too big a deal, which I must admit I thought it would be. Glad to be proven wrong.

Rich,
The process in Indiana includes completion of a affidavit of police officer for physical inspection of vehicle, included verification of engine , transmission and frame number. Trip to BMV with manufacturers cert of origin, 2 pictures of vehicle with tires installed and on the ground, receipts for the chassis, engine, transmission and the above physical inspection affidavit.
Completed the application for VIN number for assembled unit, all info above required, paid fee.
Told it would take 2-4 weeks to receive VIN Label in the mail. Fasten VIN label to chassis and have officer return and compete same form as the first time, now with the VIN in place. Return to BMV with all the docs above and now it is time to register and title the vehicle, and finally pay sales tax and excise taxes. License plate provided at that time and process complete.
I was given a 30 day temp sticker(not a plate) to cover period for VIN label to be produced.
E-mail if any questions.
