Never, ever turned the stereo on......prefer what`s being generated behind your head.

I still have the original Sony Xplod speakers. However, I upgraded the headunit. Took me a while to find one with a remote control. Halfords stock this one and it's back on offer £159.99:

Sony MEX-BT3900U

The sound is so much better than the standard stereo in my opinion. Plus you can play music via wireless transmission from your Iphone or via a USB stick plugged into the front :-)

If you upgrade to a sony head unit you can use the same remote stalk... I fitted Mac audio separate speakers... anything over 100quid will be good though (std ones were around 25 lol)

One tip when choosing the speakers is to check the ratings... some better ones like to be driven hard and sound a bit flat when no amp is present, others sound great direct from a head unit... the std head unit isnt very good at driving speakers hence replacing it with still std speakers will sound good.

I fitted a decent head unit with ipod input, having decent sounds in the car makes it much more pleasant imo

I changed my front speakers to JL, the sound quality and volume was a massive improvement.
Just change the speakers for some good quailty ones and you will achieve what you are after.
