Excellent writeup of Simon & Fanny's driving (she did a 1:13.247 - the best Cup class time by over .3 of a second!), but it seems mechanical problems rather scuppered them this week

Hopefully Simon will be along soon to tell us what happened.

Still - not all bad news - the Marcos won, and guess what my TS500 chassis is based on

Suspension problems? Balljoints per chance?

I think the suspension problem may be down to Simons "enthusiastic" driving through the Russel chicane! Oh, and a Sato-like move on a Barichello-like Ferrari

Fanny's times were pretty consistent according to my stop-watch; started at about 1:15 and fell by around half a second per lap until the car was putting in regular 1:13 times. Then it all went a bit Pete Tong.

In fact, Simon was also lapping around the 1:13 mark before - not sure what they mean about him being slower? Fanny was certainly smoother through the corners though and didn't use the kerb quite as much as Simon! Interesting that the car was absolutely composed through Corum, whereas one or two of the Prsches were getting it VERY sideways.

Noticed that there was quite a bit of smoke before the car came in, and one of the types looked pretty shredded in the garage afterwards?

Hi guys, I can't give you a full report yet as I'm heading off to Le Mans today and have to get all of my stuff packed up.

To cut a long story short, the car was pretty good (grip wise) as usual but we were hurting in a big big way on the straights. That meant that on outright pace we couldn't really expect to run higher than 8th. At the end of practice on Saturday morning I lost 5th gear and the selector fork was suspected. The guys set about changing it in time for the race (we knew already that we'd miss qualifying at the is point). Unfortunately it was too big a job and the gearbox was finally reinstalled at 7:30pm. The lads had been flat out on it all day, it's just a horrible job to get the engine out and then back in again.

So we started sunday's race from the back and I settled in a pretty rubbish position but pushed as hard as I could to catch the cars in front. Soon all of their cars started to go off and I caught them up. Our stright line problem mean that there was only one place I could overtake, into the russell chicane. A Ferrari blocked and better blocked until one lap I got a much better run on him. He came across on me anyway and there was contact as I came past. Then I set off after the others and by the time the pit stops were nearly sorted I found myself with a big lead. Unfortunately, I spun a chunk of the lead away passing a back marker just before I came in. A combination of rattling over the kerbs at that point and some contact with the Ferrari had probably weakened the front left suspension a bit much and so Fanny only completed 4 laps before it collapsed on her. Nil Points!!

Never mind, we wouldn't have won anyway as we didn't have the pace of the Porsches but could quite easily have got two thirds. Contrary to popular belief out fastest lap all weekend was a 14.0 and our fastest of the race was a 14.4. We know why the officials made a mistake but I wish we had your stopwatch Marlon!! Hope you enjoyed the racing.

Edit: The tyre was shredded from rubbing on the bodywork on the lap that Fanny came in to retire.
