Water Temp Sensor & what's this button!

Hi all
My temp gauge is playing up, sometimes working fine, sometimes not at all, and sometimes flickering! I think the wiring is a bit funny, or perhaps the sensor. Where is it located for me to check please?
Also a bit bemused by what one of the switches does. It's in the centra console, little black one and when pressed the LED lights up red. Not the rear fog light one, but a similar switch. Bit vague I know! Can get pic if required.

I think the water temp sensor is below the throttle body and sensors on the inlet manifold.
The switch apparently switches the boost controller between the 'mapped' pressure settings and standard wastegate pressure. Not sure which way round the light on setting is but try looking at your gauge with it on and off, should show a difference.

If the car has been modified then you will have to ask the previous owner as it could have been wired to almost anything that requires a switch. Some use this as a boost switch; I use it to turn on gearbox cooler and oil cooler fans.
Yeah an iPhone with a crap wifi signal on a rig! 
Rob apparently some cars did have them wired from the factory, my m400 didn't have wires but is also now the gearbox pump.
If the light is coming on that would suggest it is wired up to something chalky.
