Fly Eye Kit

I had a problem with the front headlight lenses, they had crazed around the edges as per the pic below.



These were fairly new lenses installed which Imo they are just a cheap crappy product, no doubt they could not handle the heat in cyprus, knowing how difficult they are to change and having very few options i decided to try the fly eye kit.



The film is very cheap and simple to fit, after learning the technique the second one only took 10 minutes to fit, they have done the trick with regards to covering up the defects in the plastic lenses, so the detail looks much better up close, but from a distance i think they may have detracted from the overall look.

Here are sme before and after pics, with or without, which looks best?

The crazing looks like a reaction to solvents being released from the sealant used around the edges of the lens.

Would agree, must be the silicone used, try tiger seal, it was always good on my TVR lenses.

looks wise, makes the car look like it got its sun glasses on! looks fine

That looks good Chris. Very subtle, have you measured the affect on light output from the film at all?

Thats what i suspected, i used silkflex from merlin motorsport, i assume the factory must have used something different.

i havent checked the light output yet mike but i got the HID kit fitted previously so i am hoping it will be ok.

I have just had a look to see how much light is being filtered, it looks like it will be ok, not sure how much light has been lost though.

Which Sikaflex did you use, as there are several different grades.
The factory one is a poly based one, not silicon based ( I believe) Tigerseal is also poly based.

Hi Chris,

Do you think the film is dark enough to hide the red paint that is under the lense on mine?
Is yours the darkest tint available?
Might give this a go myself.

I dont think it will hide the red tbh, you can still see thrugh up close, it is a very subtle tint, this is the darkest colour.

I had been thinking about how to do yours, and i think it can be done from inside the clam, the access holes for the lights are quite big, so take off the splsah guard, take out the lights, get yur hand inside and mask ff the inside of the lense, spray though the holes in lots of fine dusting layers and get whatever colour bezel you require, i think it may work.
