I'm in a position where I could own an M12, it's a 2002 in black with 22k. It has new turbos and manifolds. The owner blew the gearbox, but has replaced it. When he put the box back in the car the clutch cylinder inside the box leaked so he has just had enough of it!

What do you think it's worth? I offered 15k but he said I would need to up the offer.

15k sounds about right to me as you will have a bill to pay to put the car right and you never know what else might crop up that needs sorting but once done they are an awesome car good luck whatever you decide!!!

IS is a 2.5 or 3 or 3R?

So engine out - looking at around £3k. You might as well replaced the clutch as well if it has not been done.

If it is a 2.5 the going price is around £19k so £3k off that brings you to £16k.

It's a 2.5, I didn't realise you have to take the engine out to do the box?

yep engine out some people cut the chassis which then means box can be removed with engine in place but this is a bad thing in my opinion!!!!! so why not just buy one ready to go for around 20k which for the early 2.5 nobles they are about for sale

yeh 2.5 is worth around 19k if its a good un 20k+ if its a 3L... its an engine out job to do the slave cylinder so a big job, 2 days min!

slave itself is 70 for 5 speed and 250 for 6 speed.

Just had Engine out for new clutch at JNM, 1100 labour on engine removal / refit.
Slave cylinder is what , £300 ?
Where is the 3K from?

I had the clutch in mine replaced under warranty; cost to me would have been around £2.5k as I recall.

You might get it for 17-18k but depends if its has MBE ECU other bits.

I thought good 2.5s were 21/22k? especially as a CAT B goes for over 16??

also i bet you can get a good garage to do the clutch job for less than 2k. maybe tell the seller it will cost 3k then give me a call haha.

i now have a bolt in chassis member which mean you can get it out without engine removal. It was done by AW Tracksport and was a pretty straight forward thing for them to do as they do similar things on race cars.

Considering there are only about 10 for sale at any one time ever, it's really about going to look at the ones you can afford and deciding based on condition.
There's a lot more to consider than just modifications and mileage. Some leak, some are rusty, some hide damage. Most standard 2.5s are worth around 20k in decent condition, they're all low mileage really. I'd be more concerned buying a 9 year old car that hadn't really gone anywhere because that's a lot of time sitting around! Add on some of the desirables (LSD, track sump, MBE ecu) and you should expect to pay a bit more (you'll only end up spending it anyway!)

James , not pushing but generally interested in opinion , do you / would you need to tell the insurance company ? I mean its a structual change to the chassis isnt it?

The car belongs to someone I know, so I would like to think he would be honest about any other issues, but I think he has always looked after it, after all it's had new turbos, manifolds and tyres.

It's not a car I have been looking for or anything, it's more a case of grabbing a bargain! I haven't been following the ads, so I need to know if they are selling or not? I seem to remember reading that these are at the bottom of thier depreciation now?

Did'nt manage to sell mine for 22k with just about everything done. I think most people like to buy their cars in original condition.

i dont actually know. my car is so heavily modified though, turbos, exhausts, cams, wheels, splitters, wings and they have no interest in the specifics so i wouldn't have thought so! but not 100% to be sure.
