Self service advice

Right, another worry, or should i say, something thats been on my mind.

I'm a mechanic, work in a workshop.

With regards to servicing i would prefer to self service as otherwise im giving money away to someone i dont know to do the same job as me.

If i did it there would obviously be all the reciepts from parts i buy, the book would be stamped with my work stamp and could even knock up a checklist or things looked at and done on each service (a tick box sort of thing. If someone has one for a noble and could e-mail it to me then it would save me some time and show me everything the 'specialists' check then that would be ideal).
Doing this it would obviously have a full service history but would the car lose value more than one that has a 'specialist' or dealer stamp. Would it lose more than £5-600 a year in value?

I have come from a vx220 turbo and cherished that and done work on other vx220.org users cars. This is ontop of me working in a garage and working on cars all the time.

Obviously it may come down to if i ever did sell it the buyer would ask me where this place is (and point at the stamp) and would be shown all the reciepts of things bought and see for himself that the car is in excellent order then make his own mind up.

Suppose though. If i did work on quite a few nobles then i would become a specialist :P haha

Whats your opinions then please?

Personally, if I could do my own servicing, I would. I know a lot of people have a lot of faith in fsh's but I've seen some shocking work by so called reputable dealers. Will it affect the price when you sell it on? Maybe... however there are few of these cars around and the second hand values are very strong. I think if you can demonstrate the car has been looked after and in accordance with the servicing intervals, most buyers will look beyond the history.

If you've downloaded a copy of the build manual (all 291 pages of it) then fast forward to page 286 and you'll see the checklist for the various service intervals.
Does that get me a 75% discount on my first service?

As soon as i get one ill be getting onto nobleparts.co.uk and have a look haha.

I'd want to have a good tinker with mine and get to know the car before touching someone elses. But who know what the future holds haha

I do most of the work on mine all the time,it save's money and I know the job is done well,I never have been a fan of other peoples work after getting stung once.

If I cant fix something /service I know someone who can and trust him completely and wont rip me off just because its a noble,now thats another subject.

......anyway you learn more and know how your car works better.

I've been looking after mine myself since it was three years old, refurbed the chassis and heat coatings etc and its had engine oil changes at no more than 3k miles, gearbox oil regularly etc.
It's never let me down, it has only needed a wheel bearing / hub (loose hubnut), PAS pipe and battery over just routine service items in nearly six years!!
If I ever sell it the money I have saved on not paying for a dealer stamp in the book should be less a dealer FSH and I know the car has been better looked after than with the dealers anyway.

My car has the same as all my previous cars, full main dealer or specialist history prior to me and full specialist when in my ownership.
However, all remedial work & mods are carried out by someone I trust, and myself.

Actually as Phil is rather busy, I'm now the site admin for Nobleparts. I'm having a bit of difficulty matching registrations with known Noble owners, so I'm afraid you'll have to bear with me whilst I get up to speed on the verification process as I can't enable a registration until I know who someone is.

I don't think it makes any difference to value whether you service yourself or not , in fact as long as you keep all purchase invoices I feel you can do so much more therefore increaseing the value !!! The only people I would trust to work on my own car is Jetstream .
