Dos anyone know what the black plastic clip on the outer end of the wiper arm is for - these seem to come off when the car is washed (and fall nicely into the motor housing!) - don't seem to serve any purpose?
Also, I used mine in heavy rain yesterday and on position 1 (slow) the left wiper arm catches the glass (works OK on position 2 (fast) though - I had already Rain-X-ed the glass!) - I had to stop using them on pos 1 as it sounded like they were going to meet each other - checked the mountings and they're both tight?!

Ah - I presume you mean the metal of the blade isn't catching the glass?
Assuming the blades aren't worn out (change just before and after every winter - i.e. you should have just changed them.....) - try two things.
1) Swap the blades
2) Get some vinegar and newspaper, clean the whole winscreen with it, then wash down with lots of water, then run the wipers for a few minutes sprinkling just enough water on it to keep it running smoothly.
*Then* apply the rain-X (but make sure you follow the instructions - namely apply, leave, wipe off, then *sprinkle* with water whilst buffing.
That should fix your problem (unless it's worn wiper blades, then a trip to halfords will sort it out!)

Sounds like your about to experience colliding wiper syndrome! There is a known issue that the guys at the factory can sort out for you. Something to do with the fixings on the wiper mountings.
Ours have been running smoothly since the adjustments were made. Rain-X is a definite winner though as last time mine collided it was with the Mrs driving on the M1 in heavy rain and the Rain-X allowed her to keep driving without wipers.....

Thanks Stuh, I don't think it is the colliding arm syndrome as I checked the bolts and they were both tight?! I did discover what the two black plastic clips are for (two had unclipped themselves) - they hold the water pipe onto the wiper arm!
BTW, I got some Rain-X type stuff at the motor show today (rain.racer.com)- similar but meant to stay on longer and also does sinks, tiles, shower doors and patio windows - report to follow!
