SPA GT outside mirrors - vibration?

I'm interested in replacing my mirrors with these from Spa Technique:

It looks like the area where the factory mirror attaches is tall enough for the mounting bracket, but I'm wondering if that location will be too flexible, and so cause a lot of vibration.

GC1, you posted this pic in the back lights thread - do you have Spa mirrors? Are they working out well? If anyone else is using Spa mirrors, did you have to do anything besides simply attach them to the doors in order to quell vibration?

I've fitted a set of the spa mirrors, will post pics soon, not driven yet with them but to fit to the original mirror holes I simply filed off a small bit of the mounting plate to avoid the curve of the door. Look miles better and as I went for the curved glass they have a surprisingly good field of vision.

ive fitted smaller carbon mirrors about 3 inch by 2 inch glass size mounted on 4mm rubber they work fine

Where did GC1 get the black centre buts for his wheels? Anyone know?

Probably just had them re-anodised. Thats what im going to do with mine, cant decide what colour though!

Alternative (adjustable) mirrors are top of my list of things to do. The originals on my 3R have a mind of their own.

I would also jump at the chance if someone ever came up with a decent rear light cluster for sale.

Scoob painted them myself, same clour has car, and then I baked them,easy !

I call them bike mirrors because thats how I bought them,easy to fit these have indicators built in,nice, with a carbon finish ....easy to fit only mod I did was to tighten the arm to bracket better, as I found this used to move over speed bumbs etc.but not now !! .......

How are they? Are they vibrating?

I was considering doing this as well. Especially since I killed that pigeon on our last trip to Spa my mirror has never been the same since!

Are the old ones difficult to remove?

Hi guys I got a pair of bike mirrors - but looking at the mounting plate on the door it is curved and the flat plate which the mirror uses to bolt to the door is a lot wider than the area on the door.

How did you guys get around this?

Any help appreciated ..

HOYIN.....i managed to get my mounting plate base of mirror over 1 of the holes from old fitting and only then had to fill part of other in.....use the lower section of the door mount,one with holes....have seen 2 cars with them mounted on the top door near window sill but i didnt fancy cocking up the door......they've been on mine over a year now and had no issues except people tend to knock them easliy otherwise their Brill......

GC1 - Thanks for the answer. Though I having a bit of trouble visualising what you are describing.

I assume when you remove the current arm there are two holes - you use one of them for the new mirror and then you filed the other? What did you fill it with?

But the base plate of the new mirrors is taller than the flat surface that is available on the lower part of the black plate area. So about half of the base actually floats off the door due to the curve of the existing door. How did you resolve this?

I don't suppose you can show me any close up pictures of how you mounted it to get round this?

On the base plate I seam to remember I had to ground down the top and bottom part of the edge plate so to not protrude as much ,then anything left I filled with black silcone and smoothed over.....I also changed the fixing bolts for shorter ones as this helped the thread nipp up tighter and quicker while trying to access it through the small hole on the inside of the door.I think I made one of them bigger while it was off so to ade access......
