Just about to book my 3R in for 1st service and have a few minor faults rectified. However, there is one possible fault that may be just a trait of this car.
When moving away from standstill there is a clutch judder and a thump up the rear as if an engine or gearbox mounting has excessive movement in it. Could also be free play in the diff unit. Very reminicient of an old mini with a knackered engine stabiliser bush. Any ideas please?

No idea - sorry, but whoever is doing your first service should be able to find out what's wrong.

My gearbox does 'clonk' sometimes when pulling away, plus a 'whiring/grating' noise. No fault found at 1st ervice but my dealer says that Noble are looking into a known trait with the gearbox that might explain it.

Thanks Marlon, I will ask my dealer next week but am concerned that as a very new dealer they haven't any experience of these cars yet. We'll see what happens.

You sometimes get that sort of noise if you have the LSD - particularly if you do a "normal" takeoff up an incline I have found.

AFAIK all the mechanics of new dealers go on an intensive 5 day or so course. You should be fine - but perhaps take the mechanic out for a drive when you drop it off and explain what's happening, swap seats and see if he can do the same.

That way they will know exactly what they are working for - worked magic for me a few times over the years when trying to track things down..

Does the thump only happen when you've had the handbrake on?

Cast an eye over the handbrake cable and make sure the insulating cover hasn't slipped out of place (it should be adjacent to the nearby turbo!).

If it moves out of place, the handbrake cable can end up getting cooked, and the handbrake might seize on a bit.

You clearly don't experience first-hand the Law of Sod as frequently as I do!

The times I've taken an engineer out in the car it's behaved perfectly... "No, it will do it... listen... nope, let's try it up this road... (30 mins later)... well it was doing it this morning, I can assure you... (frowns and apologies, engineer out of car, and bugger me it's doing it again on the way home!)

Really sorry to hear that

Do you have a video camera? Could you stick that in and try and "tape" the clunks?

Just had my 1,000 miler at Vegantune (which was great, thanks chaps). There were 3 Nobles in there and I believe we all had loose engine mounts. Not dangerously but enough to make a noise.
