Kia Sportage Rear brake pads

Finally got around to replacing the allegedly worn rear brake pads today. When I took the old ones out they look around only half worn if that. Opinions please or am I wrong, I certainly wouldn’t have replaced had I known but as they were a good price and it only took an hour in total I’m not that bothered. Kia garage said pads and discs need doing, personally I think they are trying it on.
