Sportage - 2wd versus AWD

Looking at a new Sportage as the Team CFK support vehicle. They seem like a lot of car for the money and are generally loaded with stuff.
Just wondering if the AWD version is worth the premium, including the knock-on effect that going down that route also means having no choice but the (more costly) turbo 1.6 lump.
Any experience?
