I currently have a 2017 Golf R estate, which is an all round great car. Practical, quick, decent on fuel considering what it is.
I have had the car coming on 3 years now and with it being at 17 plate, I am thinking it may be time for a change!
However, this is where I have a dilemma!

Ideally, I would like to stay with something equally as practical and roughly the same power but just perhaps slightly newer. Maybe even something slightly more comfortable!

I have toyed with the ideal of a bigger engine diesel estate - 330d / M340D / S4 Avant TDI but my commute to work is a total of 15 miles per day and maybe 1 x trip a month on average of around 60 miles.
So diesel will more than likely not be of any benefit for me!

I have been looking at various petrol options that have similar power etc and it seems I now have the below list in place!

B9 Audi S4 Avant
BMW M340i Touring
Merc C43 AMG Estate
(Potentially Tigaun R, Arteon R or MK8 Golf R Estate)

Ideally I would like to try another brand other than VW and the better engines, comfort and interiors of the Audi, BMW and Merc have me thinking!
I would have one of those over the listed newer VW's however another concern is fuel!
Yes, we don't buy these types of cars for the fuel, but as I say, the fuel in the R is decent for what it is and how I drive! (Around 24-28 MPG around town, 32MPG on a longer journey)
A main concern would be the fuel consumption during "normal driving" on the Audi, BMW and Merc.

Has anyone else been in a similar dilemma or have any of the above and can comment / help a guy out? The struggle is real!

I have toyed with the ideal of going GTI, MK4.5 Focus ST etc as ill loose the space but still nippy and arguably better on fuel being FWD, but after having 4 wheel drive, its not something I'm overly keen to give up!!

Appreciate any help / advice anyone can give!

Thanks for all the replies folks, very much appreciated!

I know some were saying why change with it being a 17 plate. Long story short, iv had the car 3 years and I have never had a car longer than 3.5 years for various reasons. That being said, I am in no massive rush to change as in the grand scheme of things the R estate is a great car as I've previously said!

This post was so I could get a good idea for when I do change, be this soon or not.

Again thanks for all the replies, looking like it may be worth waiting for an M340i with the right spec to pop up at some point.
I actually had an M340i saloon last year on a 2 week hire after someone went into the back of me and I must say it was my first time driving one and it was superb!
