karoq vs Ateca
Discussion
TY for the above. I have been reading up on comparison between the 2...Obvs they are VAG etc and are built in the same factory, (so I found out yesterday)....From what I have read, the Karoq has a slightly softer suspension/ride, the Ateca slightly firmer and some say a bit more "sporty"....
Again, great report many Thanks.
We deffo want a dsg, have had many autos over the years and some peoples infatuation with a manual is laughable at times.
The car will be used for local mileage, 10 here, 20 there and the occasionally 30 somewhere. Need a decent boot for boxes n stuff. Have got a sports car for the silly stuff, but when we get a car we like, we keep it for 10 years...so want to get it right.
Thought about the 1 litre dsg but its quite hilly where we live and will be towing a 250+kg trailer 3/4 times a week over 25 miles at a time, so maybe the 1.4/1.5 with that extra oomph , would be better........

By no means the final 2. I thought I would put these 2 up for a comparison....bit of a lie as we like them both.
You can see why I chose these two. The year and the mileage v the £££
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226201670939?itmmeta=01...
AND
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226145159826?itmmeta=01...
Interesting contrast with the cars. 2021 with 55k on the clock at £15.7 and the Ateca quite a bit older, 4 years in fact, twice that of the Skoda but not far in mileage and "only" £2.5k cheaper. Decent spec for both, not the base model but 2 up. Neither has cruise! Bit weird we thought for that level of car BUT as we wont be doing much motorway/DC driving doesnt make much diff really.
So.....Which one and WHY!
The problem with both these cars is the lower specs.....We are looking for SE L & SE Tech......major bummer

Just asked the Exeter dealer to confirm what the style of infotainment the car has ...as the fleabay/AT advert says, the "Seat media system plus pack".
NOW matey at Hendy of Exeter says that those ads are just generic ones and are NOT 100% accurate!!!!

Cheers Sheeps.
Weird on the cruise on the SE as Parkers spec guide says that cruise ISNT an option at all? Guess it was specially asked for at build.
Going to Murray Skoda, Plympton tomorrow for a drive in a 1.5dsg out and around and back to Plymouth where the Seat dealer is to place the cars together and get a real comparison, then take the Ateca for a spin.
Was then going up to Exeter to see the Ateca there but after the BS.....will pass. (The salesman still span me BS when I asked what packages the car came with if they just put up a generic advert on fleabay, all he replied with was a 10 item list with what the car had)........My forehead now hurts and I've a dent in my wall.

Pretty sure the Ateca will have basic cruise, my wife's has it.
Depends on what spec Ateca you have doesnt it!This is now about the Karoq advert.
Its NOT in the advert so why miss out something like that and then admit your ad isnt an accurate one!
This is the same dealership as the Ateca is..... Hendy. 2 ads, neither accurate.....why?

the Xcellence does NOT have cruise as standard. Its an option.
That one has. Go to Hendy car store Exeter, find your Ateca and scroll the pictures. One picture clearly shows the LHS stalk has cruise....Deerfoot said:

Show me where it says it has cruise fitted. Show me........
A picture speaks a thousand words. The advent probably doesn't state it has interior grab handles but it will have.Go to the Hendy advert (not the eBay one) and scroll through the pictures. This car has cruise. I don't care if it's an option. It has it.
I'm done.
Get a grip.

And then read the text! Can you see the word cruise anywhere.....I cant. Its not a standard fit, its an option.....again!!!
Which that one has FFS...Things change, so they may not be exaclty the same now, but I just had a quick look at SEAT Ateca configuator and the only thing toy can choose is engine and colour.
I would say just watch with a 21 car - probably built at the height of Covid shortages. Some cars had random features missing.
The 21 car is at the top of my £££ range and high miles for a 3 yr old, BUT I only do 4000 miles a year so after a few years would avergae back out...ish.
TY Sheeps.

I deleted ny post as I didn't realise how old the Ateca is at 2017. I think Easy Move came in sometime in 2018 (ours is Sept 2018).
I still wouldn't take the advert specs, or Parkers as gospel - car specs can change a couple of times per year, sometimes with a fanfare and sometimes not. Ford has quarter model years, so you get 2018.25 etc cars.
Why cant they just simply write what the car has? I emailed the sellers Hendys and asked what packs it had as there seemed to be a difference to what was written and what is in SEAT's manuals AND the actual wording. They cant even agree with that. Its not helpfull. Exeter is an hour from me. Maybe take a picnic! Before I give the comparison from the drive today......I wish I had a big brother ....(other sized brothers are available) to bounce these figures on so he can slap me around a bit.
Over the last 3 years, we have done a combined 20k miles, so did some man maths and crunch comparisons between the Subaru mpg, tax etc and say a Karoq at 40 mpg, tax etc. We will be approx £1800 better off for 3 years worth of driving. BUT, it'll cost us say £7 or £8k in buying that newer car!
£7k trade in and £7/8k cash.
Subaru is 2013, 71k miles now. Does 30 mpg ish.....my driving A/B roads, yes it can get 40 on a motorway but we dont drive on them at all.
The replacement will be say a 2018/9/20 car with around 50k on the clock!!! Oh and another £650 for a towbar of course!
man maths says.................£8k (for the extra cost of the car) taken out of savings = at 8% pa approx £640 a year...loss. X 3 years = £1920.
So that wipes out the savings in petrol and tax!
Am I doing this right. I failed maths o level!!!

Test comparison.
2020 Karoq se and 2021 Ateca xperience.
Very very similar. Found no difference in the ride. Most reviews say the skoda is softer than the Seat. Didnt feel it at all. Acceleration same, braking was a bit harsh and quick. Seat height, vis both vg. The small rear view mirror was pathetic on both. Skoda had bigger wing mirrors. Interiors all down to spec so cant compare really. Seats sat nav was better, more modern and "felt" easier and more upmarket. Engine/gearbox etc are all same.
So for us it comes down to spec really. Leather, OK my Subaru has full leather, its a bit bang crash on bumps....but quiet and with that power, it shifts, but both cars did even in eco mode. So Alcantara would be OK, cloth seats, meh.
And basically that was it I guess.
Now its all down to the man maths....how much do we want a newer car...
Yes we can afford it
Will we miss £650 a year in lost income from that £8k in savings....probably not.
decisions decisions.

What about the cost of servicing, MoT etc? For around £38 a month you can get 3 years of servicing, MoTs, full manufacturers warranty & RAC on the Skoda All-in plan, if your vehicle is eligable.

Servicing/mot on either car would be approx the samehttps://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/all-in-service-plan

We have a 2018 Ateca - it is superb
2.0 petrol and complete with virtually every option from car play to heated windscreen (ex SEAT HQ car)
Auto but with paddles that work well - hustles down a country lane surprisingly well and takes 4 adults long distances in comfort. we don’t need it for the space day to day (and have a classic RR for load lugging) but we fully pack it for holidays and will drive to France in it later this year
We will drive it until it dies and then buy another
After the drive yesterday we preferred the Ateca BUT only maybe because it was a top specced Xperience and the Karoq was a lowly SE.2.0 petrol and complete with virtually every option from car play to heated windscreen (ex SEAT HQ car)

I did like the extra sized sat nav screen and its surround AND the readout between the dials....
