I have been looking for a sport weekend car. Every car i look at has horror stories putting me off.

Audi V8 s4 4.2
Subaru impreza 2.5
Bmw 330i or 335i

I really would have loved a v8 audi but they have timing chan issues.

I dont want a porsche boxter.

What would you guys recommend i look at.

Been looking at mazda 3 mps or a megane 2.0t. Dont know much about them.

This is the cheaper of my toys, although I don't just save it for weekends. 3 litre straight 6, limited to 155mph, hard top convertible, only 69k miles despite being a 2007 and cost me 6.5k back in Feb' (although I have spent a lot since making the underneath as good as the top and inside). SLK280.

if you like the impreza can you not get one that's had the engine work done (rebuilt) for 10k?

eta:
z3/4 could be another option

Not so keen on these 2 seaters bmw or mercs..just dont like the looks of them..i woudnt mind maybe a TTS..but not something i am actively looking for

Why would subaru need a rebuild?.are the 2.5 that bad. What about the 2.0 ones..few of them about in my budget.

I did see a very nice for focus St-3. Always had a soft spot for them

I’m similar, looking for track days and occasional road trips. My budget is a bit smaller though.

I think I’ve narrowed it down to a MK3 (250 or 265) RS Megane as they tick loads of boxes and we had one about 10 years ago that was awesome.

I do keep looking at BMW 130i’s though!

Never thought of the megane! Ill have a look see what comes up around my budget.

Yh its difficult as you want a nice powerful car..but when you research, it is always timing chain or engines going bang issues with them lol so puts you off.. otherwise i would have got a S4 4.2 v8 all day lol

Can you do any preventative maintenance? I’d love a V8, though I’ve got the 3000GT for being loud in.

I could..but could quickly become a money pit..which has happened to a few..and seems just pot luck . Sadly most arent maintained properly due to how expensive they are to maintain.

Hold on to that 3000gt prices just going up and up on them now!

MX5 will be more fun than that shortlist.

MX-5 or Nissan 350 or 370z. Jag XKR?

There's a couple of S2000's on AT for under £10k

I don't know anything about any of these cars. Just seen you can get them for less than £10k.

Quite a range of options depending on appetite for risk and maintenance costs.
My sensible choice would be a Fiesta ST though the last time I spent under £10k on a weekend car it was a Maserati 4200 which was absolutely fantastic.

How many weekends did it last?

The focus ST is growing on me..more i search for them..been looking at a megane 2.0t too. They are more in the price range.

Rather look car get decent spec then a poor mans version due to the badge..like porsche etc

I do like the 350z have added that to the list.

Nobody mentioned mazda mps are they a no go..or they just rare car that nobody thinks of?

And for less than £10k should get a very well sorted turbo or supercharged that would be perfect for trackdays and weekend jaunts. Also buttons to run and maintain.

I've got nothing against hot hatches but if you already have a practical daily I'd be looking for something more 'weekend'.

Remember most of these things you're looking at will be the chunky tax bands, no big deal but worth considering if you're going to run it all year round.

Every car you look at you can find people having problems with them, its the nature of the internet. People don't generally extol the virtues of their car when its running along perfectly!

What do you want from your weekend car? Its a personal thing but I cannot fathom excitedly waiting for a sunny weekend to roll around so I could go for a drive in my *checks notes* Focus...? It's one of the more interesting in the sector (with that warble!) but its still just a fwd hatch.

350Z is a good shout and generally pretty reliable I think, maybe not the style you want if you don't really like the look of 2 seater coupes.

If possible I'd love an E46 330i special enough and becoming a classic.
