Have done some research and taken people's advice on a second hand car on here. A honda jazz would be my first choice. Reliable, but need to make sure hasn't got bad rust. I was looking at one online local 2013, there asking 3200. Around 98k on clock. Was looking at he past Mots there is one from 2 years ago that mentions corrosion
Would that be cause for concern

Depends where it is and how severe along with how anal the tester was. in short, go and have a look at it and go from there.

Mate runs a workshop.

He said most people keep these Jazz's until the MOT tester/garage tells them to sell it before next years MOT.

So check all of them carefully.

Maybe with my low mileage usage. I'm better looking for a car that holds up better to rust. The old Japanese cars car be more prone to this?

All Jazzes of this age will have some rust underneath. They are Jap cars in a harsh British environment.

I see plenty of 02/03/04 Jazzes still in daily use. My Dad has a 08 one and it it now crusty underneath. Mechanic says not to bother to do anything.

Same here, I sold my 2005 Jazz and it had rust on both rear wheel arches and the usual leaky hatchback.

The trims that run the length of the roof have sealant/mastic under them that hardens over time leaving small cracks. This drains down the C-pillars into the wheelwell in the boot. When the water level gets high enough and you brake hard, the water overtops the wheelwell into the rear footwells.

Easiest and most satisfying solution? Drill a hole in the wheelwell and watch all that water escape. I did think about rustproofing the hole, but decided it would be years before t became a serious problem.

Most common is them rotting either on the sill or just inside the rear arch but within 30cm of suspension point.

Other than that rear brakes and that’s about it. Ac wise the condenser bows and splits.

I think the roof leaks are mainly a mk1 (up to 2009) thing - does it happen on the mk2?

Other things were gearbox bearings and rear hub bearing - IIRC the rear hub is sold as an assembly including the bearing.

Snapping drive shafts due to corrosion seems quite common.

We still have 2014 mk2 in the extended family that’s been with us since new. It’s on about 100K now and its user is very rough on cars. Just passed MOT after a bit of work but the advisory list is impressive, one of them was general corrosion including suspension components.

Have a Suzuki swift GLS. So no the pains of a bullet proof car losing its battle to rust. It has been absolutely bullet proof.

This is what is says January 2025
Nearside Front Suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i))
Offside Front Suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i))
Front Exhaust front flange corroded.
The tested again October 2026. Which is clear.
All Mots clear of corrison before that. Is it strange how it was tested again 9 months later?

Those rust advisories are all on parts which are easily replaced and not structural so it's entirely possible a previous owner replaced the parts for new and the problem has been sorted, or alternatively another MOT tester doesn't deem the rust to be significant to advise on
