Can anyone advise please
Last few cars been bmw and thats what i prefer. Had a x5 for short while but the third row never worked for us as to get into it car seat had to be removed ( and was really tight there)



Family of 5.
2 year old, 1 year and 11

Q7 has 3 seats across in second row but apparently dont drive as good as an x5 also 3rd row has more space. Also heard about the 50tdi turbo lag issue. I drive sensibly but alot of real reviews say you have to wait 2 secs for power to come innwhen overtaking or joining round about


Anyone else managed with 3 kids in x5 or is it too small.
I do 8k year miles, during week after school clubs etc short trips, 1-2 month longer motorway trip will diesel cause dpf issues. Last x5 was 30d and fine but found myself using other car alot to avoid short trips but seemed like a waste having the x5 sitting there during week

XC90 are the solution for most families. You don't need the rear seats so have huge boot and can get 2 isofix baby seats in middle row and plenty room for 3rd child

If you divert from diesel I guess hybrids are out there for you, x5 sold lots of these??? In my experience as long as diesel gets a good run occasionally there's no problems

Would you say they too small? Boot was good and lovely drive felt just like a car

Tbf had issues with an older euro 5 bmw 5 series diesel but then i had a 7 mile commute and the dpf kept trying to regen but i arrived at work, kept dumping diesel into the oil. Dont use car for work now but during week used for kids clubs, local run to shops etc

The biggest issue for 3 kids is fitting 3 car seats in a row or even 2 plus another sitting next to or in between. Very few cars can do this. The best cars for this are ones with 3 separate indicial seats, bjtt these tend to be unpopular MPVs.

OP only needs two car seats as I'm assuming the 11 year old will fit into any seat.

Yes but when the time comes fitting between 2 HBB is very difficult.

You don't mention budget OP. But have you considered the X7?

We have a 3 kids and a G05 X5. Kids are 8, 5 and 0.

We can get 3 seats in the middle row but that's only because the 5 and 8 year old are on booster seats.

With your going children, your 11 year will fit in the middle but will be a squeeze.

We have 3 daughters with a 2 year age gap between each one, we had the exact same problem and bought a Discovery 4 as it comes with 3 individual seats, the last 2 (3rd row) seats were rarely used.
Fortunately our daughters are all older now and no longer in child seats.

As mentioned elsewhere an XC90 seems to be the popular choice.

Peugeot 5008 (2 of them) got us through the 3 young kids below 8 stage then a Transporter T6

rather than getting a third row they might fit all in the same row - and probably cheaper than getting a new car?

Bear in mind a Multimac USP is fitting more children into a space you normally can't. The USP is not best in class safety.

Would an EV suit? A model Y has a bigger boot than an xc90 and better passenger space. Plenty of room for when our 3 kids needed 2 car seats between them.

Will be more reliable than a volvo and BMW too

Discovery 5 or a Defender configured with 6/7/8 seats.

EV9 and Ioniq 9 in 6/7 seater spec is massive inside. More space than a XC90 or X5.

We have a Y now after lots of other stuff and just had 4 big suit cases and 5 of us in comfort to the airport. No issues at all. Last time we moved this much stuff and people we had the transoorter. 6 series BMW GT couldn't fit all the cases last time

Q7 seems good but there a-lot of reviews about an issue with the factory map which causes 1-2 sec lag when pulling off have a delay in throttle response then pulls hard.

Xc90 no isofix in rear seats ( can car seats be fitted there)

Can you fit a booster in middle using car seats belt ?

If you are using a high back booster is from circa 5-7 upwards you don't need to use the isofox even if the seat has it. It adds no additional safety. You should though strap the seats in when not in use.
