Dream Car Choices

I realise choice is subjective. In a year or two I hope to be in a position to buy my dream car. For reference the car will likely do about 6k a year and will be used mainly for weekend duties, the annual pilgrimage to Le Mans, summer road trips with the Mrs - UK and Europe and might even be used for the odd bit of business mileage.

Looking at about £80k and my thoughts are one of the following:

Late 911 991.2 GTS
Early 911 992.1 Carrera S
Brand new/Ex demo BMW M4 comp
Early current shape Aston Martin Vantage

It will need to live outside most of the year - can be garaged for the worst couple of months over winter and my Wife will need to be comfortable driving it locally - she’s a decent driver and likes a sporty car.

I’ve had several M cars. They’re amazing and the Mrs loves them. Current daily is a new Porsche Macan 4S EV which is actually pretty impressive for what it is. My heart wants a 911, I think it would be a complete step up from an M car, though would be a few years old rather than new/nearly new. I’ve always harboured the idea of an Aston too.

Welcome thoughts on my ideas above and also any over ideas.

Great position for be in smile

If I had a cast iron warranty I’d go for the Aston purely on looks.

If not then it would be the 992 GTS

For me the M4 isn’t “special “ enough

It depends on how much you value having something new. If that’s not important I’d definitely go for a 911.

Having just picked up one of these so clearly biased, I vote one of these.

Would imagine it would fit your usage case very well.

R8 V10, absolutely brilliant for what you've described.

McLaren for sure. Some of the early ones are really affordable now.

Buddy of mine picked up one cheap last year and it's done 10k with no issues.

Well, my dream car has long been an Audi r8 v10 manual, so id go for that. Im particular fans of naturally aspirated engines paired with ideally, manual gearboxes. Porsches would likely be my next choice.

M4 doesn't feel special enough to be a dream car. Too common, based on a fairly average bmw platform and so on.

How much can you get a v12 vantage manual for these days? That would be a special car.

Oh I would love a V12 vantage but I think it might be vetoed by lady Wife. A couple of mentions for the V10 R8 which I hadn’t thought about and is definitely worth a look when the time comes

I remember when the LC500 was first launched, people on this forum were saying that they'd
wait to pick up a four year old example when they 'inevitably' dropped to £25k...

...in reality, they are holding their value astonishingly well.

Late 911 991.2 GTS in a whacky colour.

I love them.

A BMW M4, meh it just isnt an event to me - im both visual and driving. Its the experience.

Oh yes...100% that's the one I'd have, lovely thing, I don't think I'd ever get tired of looking at it.

Brain thinking " if I sold both cars I'd have about half the asking price, where could I get more money...bks I can't afford one..!!! "

Why do you think a v12 vantage would be vetoed? Too old? Not turbocharged? A manual? Granted they are getting on a bit now, but... less to go wrong with a naturally aspirated motor and... its a fricking v12! You'd be a hero of le mans if you rocked up in a v12 vantage... less so in an m4.

But that said... not that you need my approval, but just considering an r8 v10 in any guise is alright by me!

I’d also consider a DB11, AMG GT, Cali T, as well as the aforementioned McLarens.

For that money I would add into the mix:

R8 V10
V12 Vantage S - get the non manual: you can drive it in the paddles and your wife can drive it in full auto.
McLaren 12C
991.1 turbo S - a very impressive car.

Buy a good cover if it’s outside for most of the year.

You aren't getting into a current shape Vantage for £80k, early or not.

911 will be a great choice but there are more special cars for the money, what about:

Bentley Continental/ GTC
Maserati Gran Turismo/ Gran Cabrio
Mercedes AMG GT / GTS
Chevrolet Corvette

Bork factor intensifies.

You sound like you want pork. Buy pork. Just make sure you get Pork warranty. Especially if you choose .2 over .1

I think a late 991.1 manual gts would be a smart purchase.
