Spending money before selling/trading in / webuyanycar ing?

Hi All

Bit of a dilemma.

I have 10 year old BMW 430i. It’s only done 70k miles but needs all 4 wheels refurbished(diamond cut gone white in the centre) will need an MOT and minor service at the end of the year. It’s generally very tidy otherwise, hi spec car etc

Service and MOT probably £300 but proper wheel job is £700.

I’m fairly sure any dealer or webuyanycar type place will jump on these points and my 10k offer will drop.

My question is, should I invest a grand and the try to sell it or just leave it as is and take the hit?

Why don’t you take it into WBAC and see what they say? If they lowball you you can take the car away and get the work done.

If you go into the "assumptions" bit of WBAC, and fill out all the detail, you'll get a more realistic estimate.

just provide the detail along with high quality images showing the damage that way they cant say the damage wasn't visible when the bid was placed.

I wouldn't worry about a service being due at the end of the year, as in theory that is nearly 6 months away...

The cost to a dealer / trader for the wheel refurb is less than it would cost you, I'd leave it as it is.

I'm struggling in my own head that 4 Series are 10 years old....

It looks good for a 10 year old car imho. It’s on a 66 and I hadn’t realised that’s about as old as they get - it’s a Gran Coupe.

It's not due a service so I wouldn't be doing one.

If selling to the trade leave the wheels. If you're not happy with their offers then I'd have the wheels done ahead of a private sale.

I have a Boxster that I’ve sold and should leave my possession tomorrow. Taking the advice onboard I think I’ll run my 430 until next year. Service and MOT on schedule then sell in the spring.

I’m planning to move to one car because I just never get chance to use a second car so at least if I have something interesting as a daily I’ll always be enjoying it.

I’m facing this question on my Range Rover Sport. If cleaned up (4 wheels fine and a couple of scuffs repainted) it’d be worth about £18,000. The work will be about £1,000.

I’m going to see what I get offered as-is on a trade-in but will get it done if I decide to sell privately as it’ll likely revived at least a you’d fraction of the cost and probably make everything go a lot easier.
