Hi all,

I m in the process of voluntarily terminating my PCP agreement with Volkswagen Financial Services (VWFS), and the vehicle will be inspected by BCA before collection.

The car is generally in good condition, but one alloy wheel has some kerb rash/scuffing around the outer rim.

I m trying to decide whether it s worth repairing the wheel before the inspection or leaving it as it is.

Has anyone recently returned a VW through a Voluntary Termination with VWFS and had a similar alloy wheel condition?

Many thanks in advance
Maria

Cheaper for them to do it unless you have a friend in the trade....

Unfortunately I don’t have friends but thinking to start this lucrative business by my own 🙂.
Thanks for your swift reply.

I think the rules for VT are (or at least, they should be) a bit different in that the relevant law that allows VT only allows for damage beyond fair wear and tear.

I'd argue that light scuffing of the daft alloys that get fitted to cars these days is fair wear and tear. If they're pretty well wrecked, then that's a different matter.

Rim only (not spoke), less than 1/4 of the wheel will be fair wear and tear.

Thanks for your feedback, if I could resume that, only 2 wheels close to 1/4 or less , but for sure more than 50mm 🤷🏻‍♂️

VWFS make everything pretty clear regarding charges for damage beyond wear and tear on PCP cars.

Thanks very much for the information.

One question, if you don’t mind: is the £72 charge for refurbishing the whole alloy wheel, or is that amount charged per wheel?

I got a quote to refurbish the alloy by diamond cut for £90+vat

The car will go straight to auction, so it won't matter either way. But the inspector will have to note any damage and leave it to VWFS to try to scam the customer. Best to ask VWFS what they'll charge you and compare that to the cost of repairing it yourself. Or do nothing and ignore their claims after the fact.

My wife marked a wheel on her Golf before it was returned to VWFS and I think the cost was £40+vat as an additional end of lease charge - about 18 months ago mind.

You could phone them to double check, but my interpretation is that since the document states "wheel refurbish", that's £72 per wheel "Where there is over 50mm of scuffing, corrosion or damage to the spokes."

Hi all,

I phoned VWFS and they confirmed that I'll be charge £36 per alloy wheel when it falls outside the 50mm overall rim. So, in my view is more convenient do nothing instead of make some repairs.

Thanks all for your comments. Enjoy the day!
