Ford Kuga best engine/year for me
Discussion
After a new motor and the Mrs really likes the look of a ford kuga after going out in her friends. I've haven't nothing against it. What is the best engine type.PHEV FHEV or 1.5 petrol. I dont have anyway of charging at home but can charge at tescos. Do PHEV charge as you drive? Don't want a diesel as I don't do that many daily miles. Doing about 8000 miles a year
Cheers

Had a PHEV as a courtesy car for two weeks after our car was in for insurance work.
Honestly? Hated it and was glad when could hand the keys back.
Wasn t particularly comfortable, gearbox was dimwitted compared to the DSG stepped out from, was sluggish, felt heavy, thirsty but the absolute worst thing was fact climate controls were all by touchscreen that didn t seem to like my finger and never worked properly.

I had a 1.5 phev for 2 weeks after a crash.
I didn't gel with it.
- very dark and gloomy interior, albeit not unpleasant to drive (ford generally know their stuff)
- horrible touch screen controls (might just be me getting old?)
- lots of annoying buzzes and warnings (definately me getting old!)
- gearbox was dim (i don't like autos generally, but never driven a dsg to be fair)
- it didn't feel "fast" despite a book time of 6 seconds to 60.
- big on the outside but not necessarily on the inside (i prefer estates)
I did charge it with a granny cable and outdoor plug, but my extension reel would overheat, so ignorethe thoght of long extension cables across the drive.
Pure electric driving was the best bit - short journeys were very peaceful
However I wouldn't ever consider buying a new car. And with plug in hybrids, there's a lot of battery and stuff you're buying and have to carry round to make up what is a few pence fuel saving at the end of each day. The numbers just wouldn't work for me.
Anyway, this tells me what I thought- I hope it's somewhat useful to help you decide what might be best for you.

We have one of the last of the previous generation (2018) as a family car, it's the 1.5 turbo petrol manual
In terms of practically you cant fault it, handles 2 kids and all the associated clobber easily.
if you have the choice though I would recommend one of the other engine choices, its suffers really badly being a big car with a small engine so you end up thrashing it everywhere - we average around 30mpg which hurts a little compared to the 45mpg from our previous T-roc.
