Car adverts that say 'doctor owned'

What on earth is this about?


Mrs Guitar is a doctor, and I can confidently state that you wouldn't want to buy one of her old cars. Why do people put it on an ad as if having been owned by a doctor makes a car somehow more desirable?

It’s just the same as “lady owner” or “company owned”

Doctors are supposed to be upstanding in society and for some reason we assume that makes them a good car owner who services it on time, always waits for it to warm up, never rags it etc

Son’s current and first car was 1 owner from new Fiat 500 from a lady Doctor. 6 yrs servicing all on time everything else not so good , bird st burns in the paintwork and many door dings. All up to speed now but a doctor doesn’t automatically equal fastidious ownership.

One of my staff member s father worked at the HQ of the Devon & Cornwall Police as a caretaker. He was a keen Alfa fan and part ex d a 33 at the local Alfa dealer who described it as owned by a senior police officer in the ad in Autotrader. He had to go and explain that it wasn t anything to do with him, just the dealer making an incorrect assumption. I think he d been in the military so you could see where the dealer got the idea from

I’ve written this previously but my mate’s Mum sold her one lady doctor owner from new car (full main dealer service history) when it should have said one careful and two careless (teenage sons) drivers from new.

My missus is a doctor and drives no different to any other drivers of similar cars. Will soon be doing first response work in it for a charity she’s involved in.

Any car ad that states 'Doctor owned' or 'ex company director' or some such bilge like that should be tipping you off that the car is being sold by an Arthur Daley type wanna be prick and is best avoided.

Came here to say the same about a friend that is a doctor.... no mechanical sympathy and not a care in the world about anything that may present as a symptom outside of scheduled main dealer service bookings.

The only thing like this that counted was an old saloon or estate with a National Trust sticker in the window.

It didn't need a cheesy and blatantly deceptive description as the pictures, full maintenance dealer service history, empty MOT history and premium tyres spoke for themselves.

NT have done away with them though and you now use your membership card for free parking instead. Sad times.

My old Saab had a Rotary Club sticker in the window, so I bought it!
In the glovebox I found a log of every gallon of petrol put in it over the last 5 years. Full main dealer history of course.
It was as solid & reliable as an old bank manager.

when i was in the trade doctors cars tended to all be beyond filthy dirty and neglected , not a selling point for me

if i saw it in a ad id think of del boy putting a bible in the glove box and claiming its the vicars car

I service all my cars on the button, they are maintained properly and I wait until my oil is warm before hitting the redline. (I never use main dealers though!)

Can I expect a 5% price premium when I sell my little Up?
It is also one owner from new. Seriously.

Yep. Describes my Dr friend perfectly too. The only person I know who uses the crunching sound of alloy against concrete to park her (never serviced) car ‘properly’.
