Hi all,

My lad is looking at a new car and quite likes the look of a 2013 Audi TT he has seen.

Its the 1.8t petrol engine with 160bhp

Has anyone experience of these engines and are they reliable? Ive read up about timing chain/tensioner issues but not sure which year is affected and what to look out for?

Is there anything else to consider and look at?

The car in question is just over 79k miles and has a fairly clean MOT record.

Thanks

Steve

Parents had that engine in an Octavia, I think it was fine. I don't think there are any major common issues with them, and they're pretty widespread if you need parts or a good mechanic.

With an older turbo engine especially in a 'sports car' I would be wanting to see evidence of regular (annual) oil changes with good quality oil, just because the turbo is harder on oil. Given that, should be fine esp at sub 100k miles I'd think.

i own a 2.0 (2010) so am on a Mk2 TT group - don't see many (any?) posts about engine problems on either variant.
