Partner needs a new car for general town driving/ odd trip with the dog/once a month 200 mile round trip motorway trek, probably doesn’t even touch beyond 3-4K miles per year.

I have no idea where to start bar having a max budget up to £17k, 2020/2021+, and per her words, it has to have Apple Car Play.

Any recommendations from personal experience? Trying to avoid picking up a car with notorious horror stories!

Have you got a preference on EV or ICE?

I think an EV would suit your situation well, but ultimately depends on:

A: if you like them
B: if you can home charge

As an EV owner, I wouldn’t personally have one if I couldn’t home charge as it’d be a little faffy - as it stands, I get home and just plug it in. Next day it’s ready to go.

Is she looking for a small car? Saloon? Crossover?

I do have an EV charger… open to ideas, I did look at the Mini’s but the range is meant to be AWFUL!

Ultimately, she won’t fancy a massive car, probably something more akin to a hatchback 1 Series/A3 esque in size.

Lots of short journeys = EV I would have thought. Maybe Google which ones have Car Play and then see what's in budget / if she likes it?

The current Tesla model 3 RWD lease deal might be worth a look, there's a thread in the Car Buying forum or you can mess around with the numbers here: https://www.tesla.com/en_gb/model3/design#overview
Limiting it to 5k pa over 24 months will make it very cheap.

If you’re up for giving an EV a go, I think a Cupra Born would be a great option.

A little bit more to it than an ID 3, and decent range.

You've listed probably the only car 2020+ that doesn't have CarPlay lol.

Polestar 2 Long Range can be had for that budget.

This one has the (very worth it) Plus pack, but may be a bit miles-y for some. Sure similar money would get less miles elsewhere.

I believe you can add it, for a monthly fee.

Not sure if you need CarPlay when the Tesla infotainment is pretty good, but I suppose I'll find out when mine arrives.

Thank you ZX. The EQA could be a good shout.. time to go research the crap out of them now!
Looks like the 250+ might be in budget now. They're well worth going for as very efficient and offer good range for those longer trips, my wife had one for a year and was impressed with it.
