BMW X5 30d vs 40d which would you go for?
Discussion
Hi all,
I’m currently looking to buy a BMW X5 (G05) and have narrowed it down to two cars that are very similar in price, but slightly different in spec and mileage. I’d really appreciate some advice from those who have owned or driven both engines.
Option 1 – X5 30d MHT M Sport xDrive
• £46,000
• 2022 (72 plate)
• 43,500 miles
• From a BMW main dealer
• BMW Approved Used
• 3.0 diesel mild hybrid
• M Sport
• Tech Pack
• 22” wheels
1 previous owner
Option 2 – X5 40d MHT M Sport xDrive
• £46,490
• 2021 (70 plate)
• 29,800 miles
• From BMW dealer
• BMW Approved Used
• 3.0 diesel mild hybrid
• M Sport
Includes tech pack and comfort pack and laser lights and comfort heating pack.
3 previous owners
So the 30d is newer but has more miles, while the 40d is older but has lower mileage and the more powerful engine. However the 40d has 3 previous owners.
The car will mainly be used as a family SUV with motorway driving, so comfort, reliability and long-term ownership are more important than outright performance.
For those who have experience with these, is the 40d worth going for over the 30d, or would you prioritise the newer registration of the 30d?
Also interested to hear if there’s anything specific I should check when buying a G05 X5 diesel.
