My 'what's it worth' thread...
Discussion
So, my 'help me value ('what's it worth') thread was deleted! That's a new rule since I was here last
Thanks for everyone who responded - unfortunately I only got to see two replies before the thread was sin-binned...
So another question - where do people go to get their cars valued before trying to sell?
I checked in with a marque-specific facebook group, and obviously got a 'we think it's worth this' from owners/fans/enthusiasts (who generally - probably - overvalued the car). I also tried Parkers (free) and took a look at the marketplace (Autotrader, eBay, etc.).
Valuing a low-mileage, limited-edition vehicle is tricky I guess. I'm reluctant to either take it to a specialist auction house (fees) or do an eBay auction myself (risk) but I also don't want to take months/years to get rid.
Any advice gratefully received. Thanks PHers!

I'd try and sell it through the owners groups, as they are more likely to pay over for something special. I sold our 2005 New Beetle cab in 2020 with 20k miles on it, although it was immaculate, as it was pretty much just a show car. Joe Public wouldn't have paid extra for the very low mileage, but I got a very good price selling it on a VW forum to someone who was willing to pay extra for the best example possible. In the end, as usual, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay though.
Alternatively, if you want to try a dealers. Bowens Garage in Ross on Wye specialise in low mileage cars, so might be worth a go.

Marque / model specific owners club.
Auto trader and PH.
Get the closest car match / average out the numbers and adjust for mileage and condition.

Maybe that's because you're posting in the wrong area of the forum?www.pistonheads.com/rules-of-posting
For regular cars, We Buy Any Car. Just punch in your VRM and mileage, make up a phone number and email and press submit. That's bottom line what its worth.
If selling on Auto Trader then look at their price guides.
If selling on Ebay then use WBAC valuation as the reserve.
If its a special car, low numbers, very limited or high value - you are better off just looking at current listings - watching what sells and what does not sell.

There isn't a magic number that any vehicle is 'worth'.
You'll sell it for not more than one individual thinks it's worth.
You'll always wonder if you could have got more.
It's a pretty rare vehicle if none come on the market in a period of a year or 18 months.
You can see past listings on ebay, world wide.
google will throw you past adverts from traders.
If you auction it, you might get a good price, but you're only fishing in a pool of that day's buyers.
The best buyer for your car might come along months later.
No two cars or bikes are really the same, wear and tear, original bits and replaced/restored bits.
Mods buyers like, or dislike.
Dealers have obligations under consumer rights so have to charge more.
I've sold a few collectable used, unrestored bikes.
Best result was about 2/3 of what a dealer wanted for an immaculate one. mine was good for its age, but a long way from immaculate.

No where near enough information, is it a sub 1000 mile Enzo or a 20 year old 25,000 mile Elise? It's not tricky to find out what it's worth but it is tricky to match that against your expectations of its worth, lots of open source ways to find out what a car is worth. You either offer it to a selection of used dealers either individually or via a motorway style auction (that tells you the trade value whether you like it or not) Or offer it for sale on an Auction site like Collecting Cars which will give you the cars worth in an open market sale to both private and trade sellers.
