We are looking to buy a used seat Leon, hoping to keep hold of it for the foreseeable future so want realiability and a car we will enjoy.

We are stuck between two options:

A 2018 and a 2017 plate - only a year between the two in terms of registration dates

2017 one is a 150bhp and the 2018 is only a 125bhp. Both estates.

2017 is a grand cheaper so price doesn’t really come into play here it’s just what we prefer the look of and will see us through well.

We prefer the look of the 2018 plate - alloys look nicer and car looks generally fresher. Plus it’s in red which goes well with the FR trim level.

Any negatives on going for the option with lower BHP from those who have these cars? It will be our family car so not racing around in it but wondered if due to its size it will be sluggish at 125?!

Thanks in advance!

I had a 125 1.4tsi Octavia then switched to a 150 Superb estate. The extra 25 is nice to gave but the Octy never felt underpowered. Unless you are doing a lot of full loaded trips with more than 2 adults and luggage the 125 is fine IMO.

Personally I'd avoid red but it's up to you!

I have a 2018 150hp. The 150 has ACT (Active Cylinder Activation) that enables the engine to run on 2 cylinders when only low power is needed. The 125 doesn't.

Outside town my 150 does slightly higher mpg than a friend's lower powered version. 52+ on motorway. Both are hatchback FRs.

I had an Audi A3 with the 150PS cylinder on demand engine. It felt pretty quick but it's the only car I've had which has needed regular top ups with oil.

Personally I'd stick to the 150 to avoid any regrets later.

But maybe that's just me? I bought a BMW 325i in 2018 but it only lasted a year before I replaced it with a 330i which I still have!
