Anyone know if you can back date a transfer of keeper when using the DVLA online service or is it only for the current day?

Why not try it and see?

But be careful you don't go too far along the process, although I'm sure there will be an "Are You Sure" message or something before you finally commit the transfer...

Isn't it only available between 0700 and 1900, so if you sold a car after 1900 you should be able to change the ownership the next day although advising that you sold it the day before.

Why do you want to do that? If the sale was receipted and depending on why you need this backdated, that is normally fine. Also, when completing the form online it asks for the date of the sale.

Dealer just backdated the transfer my wife's car by 11mths - they forgot to do the transfer when she bought the car and only realised when they got the tax reminder (they'd just put the car on the road for a salesman when she bought it).

I assumed it would show a current date, but nope, they backdated it.

It's been a while since I used it (nearly 5 years) and it was more out of curiosity as I'd already posted the paper form off back dated. I should have probably tried but just assumed it would be for the then and now and of course googling doesn't show what is possible without going through a dummy transfer (and I didn't want to inadvertently add an owner through a little experiment). Buyer will just have to wait another couple of days until they get the V5 back to tax it (which was what was agreed at point of sale because I had no V5 to hand after private plate removal).

You can backdate yes. I’ve done it for periods of a year or so back when I’ve had a car registered to trade but decided/forgot to register it personally.

I bought a car 2 weeks ago, and the seller was slow to do a change of keeper, and then backdated it 9 days. I then couldn't SORN with the slip it because it had been 'untaxed' since 25th May. it was done in early June, but I wondered if it meant the previous owner would get June's VED refunded.

By the time the V5c arrived, it had been 'untaxed' for 12 days, although VED had actually been paid for the whole of May anyway. rolleyes I doubt I'll get anything from the DVLA.
