Has anybody driven both? I'm looking to see which has the higher quality interior, and which one is more comfortable and quiet when driving. That's all I care about to be honest as I'm doing both town and motorway miles.

Get an E Class 220d.

That's not really a fair comparison though.

Surely it should be an A4 vs a 320d, or a 520d vs an A6 but maybe adding the C220d and E220d options suggested.

I don t think you d be disappointed with either. My son in 2022 had a 16 plate A4 2.0 TDI (190) S Line that I also did a few thousand miles in. I was impressed by the performance, handling and overall quality, so for me the Audi just edges it.

I have read that the A4 far exceeds the 3 series and C class for both interior quality and ride comfort, and that it's comparable to the 5 series etc.

Was that from an Audi salesperson? My experience would say other wise.

I'm a BMW fan but on my company car cycle went:

2011 E90
2015 A5 Sportback (same pretty much as A4 and don't know Audi codes)
2018 F30

All S line / M Sport, I found the interior much nicer in the Audi, I found the B&O sounded better than the H&K, I'm now in a G32 from 2018 and think that's a real step up from the F series models.

Not directly what you asked but my 2p worth smile

5 series all day long, just avoid the m-sport models and go for a car with smaller wheels (17 inch) and softer suspension if comfort is key. The 8 speed ZF auto alone would be enough to make the decision for me, so much better than anything Mercedes or Audi offered at the time.

That's good to know. I guess I should also throw in the E220d like others have said. And I know the Audi gearbox is prone to failure and quite slow like the other poster mentioned.

Had an F10 520d and facelift W212 E class 220d as company cars back in the day. For me the E-Class engine was far rougher, it felt like a taxi inside and was far less comfortable than I expected + the gearbox had a mind of its own.

I will look out for a 520d with the B47. Should be good with doubled service intervals?
