Cayenne or Macan?
Discussion
Planning ahead for a future change of car sees me considering a used 2020(ish) Porsche Cayenne or Macan, and I'm trying to establish what the main differences are other than size?
I'm a big bloke and 6' 2" tall and whilst the Cayenne would offer the most space for me in the drivers seat and will suit towing my caravan, how does the Macan compare for drivers seat space and towing?
If I found the Macan comfortable to sit in then I'd probably go that route to save some £, but other than interior space what other benefits does the Cayenne offer?

Both are brilliant on the handling & performance fronts. Until recently the Cayenne has been a proper posh 4x4 with excellent off road capabilities. But as most are used as Chelsea tractors some of that has been toned down of late. The Macan is more luxury mid size SUV and I have had four adults in my mine but there's far less space than Cayenne, so if you need to regularly haul three kids or teenagers that's the one to have. The Macan has been around for over 10 years without many radical updates, whilst current Cayenne has all bells & whistles if you want to spec it up & pay the huge price tag that goes with it. Finally, both are f quick given their bulk.
Thanks. Would the Macan be the equivalent size wise of a VW Tiguan?
A neighbour has a lovely basic model Macan so I might ask if I can have a sit in the drivers seat nearer the time. However I shall condition myself to the fact that the Cayenne will cost likely be the most suitable option.
I hear the Cayenne S allows you to get on first name terms with the staff at the local petrol station?

Macan is based on q5 so longer than Tiguan which shares a platform with q3, but it's a lot less 'square' so the interior suffers.
I looked at Tiguan, Q5, and Macan a few months ago.Tiguan ruled out first due to driveline - most are Front-Drive only, and those that are 4WD aren't permanent 4.
Of the Macan and the Q5 - the Macan has the nicer interior, but suffers massively in terms of rear headroom, rear legroom, and boot space.
In a Q5 I can sit behind myself in comfort. In a Macan, I can barely sit behind myself. Mrs Magnum and I are both the same hight - about 6' tall. Our kids are going the same way. So I bought the Q5.

Was the X5 also a consideration? I assume they are a similar size to the Q5?Tiguan ruled out first due to driveline - most are Front-Drive only, and those that are 4WD aren't permanent 4.

That's the problem with any car isn't it, every car has maybe 3 or 4 other cars that are similar and are competing for attention.

Q5 ~= X3
Depending on where you live and where you might parking it this might decide for you

We currently have a 2018 2.0 Gen 1 Macan bought recently (and had a 2017 Macan SD bought new but sold after 6 months or so).
The Macan is a pretty large car externally but internally that size disappears quickly. Rear legroom if you’re 6ft 2ins will be tight.
The thing that always gets me is the drivers footwell - it’s VERY snug thanks to the transmission tunnel really intruding - probably not so much of a problem in LHD. Yes there is a drivers footrest but again that is pretty tight and you end up having to twist your foot a bit which over a long drive will be a pain (literally).
We still love it and many say that the Gen 1 model (built between 2014-2018) is better build quality with better materials - it also predates the touchscreen everything (with nanny state safety buttons).
Not the most economical mind you - 2.0 petrol is probably not much better than the 3.0 petrol - average works out around 30mpg overall.
Had a 2024 Cayenne courtesy car recently - now that is larger inside and drivers footwell is more spacious.

Mmm, I'd forgotten about that threadhttps://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
I haven't driven either, but I first sat in the Macan and thought it was nice, if a bit pokey.
I then went into the Cayenne and it was a lot, lot nicer - material quality was far higher and felt more spacious and generally just a better place to be.
I went for a Range Rover, but out of those it would definitely be the Cayenne for me.
