I want to tidy up my photos for a car that I am selling. I have removed the background and now want to put in a new background.

The issue I am having is all the sites I have tried so far want a payment. Anyone know of a free site?
I need to do about 10-12 images.

I appreciate this could be done with Paint shop etc but my skills are no where near able to do it.

I’d suggest not bothering.

Advertisements that use blatantly false backgrounds I feel the images look stupid. And you end up wondering what else has been digitally “enhanced”. If you are touching up one area of a photo, surely you’d also touch up other areas.

And from a private seller I’d rather see the real location of the vehicle as, rightly or wrongly, it can show an insight into the owner/history. Older expensive car parked on a gravel driveway, yes please. Older expensive car parked on the side of the road on an undesirable estate with sofas and washing machines in the front gardens, no thanks.

Well the current photos are not working, so I need to do something to just change it up.

I rarely drive the car, and its currently SORN so getting the car to a new location isn't ideal.

The feedback I have had from traders / specialists in these cars is re-do the photos.

Its a very difficult car to sell so I am just trying anything at this stage.

I would always keep a car for sale in a driveable condition, so it could be test driven. I'd expect anyone/everyone to want to test drive a car; albeit if they are unsure then the seller may drive it and they be passenger.

It might just be one of my little foibles, but when I look at advertised car pics online, I always start with what’s in the background - garden, driveway, street etc. to get a ‘feel’ for the car and owner before actually looking at the vehicle.

I would re-do the photos, and if you don't have a good camera, call in a favour from someone who does. Pistonheads Auctions will upsell a photographer, so maybe ask them if they had a photographer in the area.

They have a list of shots to get, all you need to do is clean the car and help with choosing a nice location.

Don't try to fiddle with existing photos by altering backgrounds - it will look fake and buyers will wonder what else has been altered.

Honestly I'd tax it and take it somewhere nice for photos.
Fake backgrounds just look not quite right.

Can you post an example of the photos you've taken?
I may be able to advise or tidy up for you.

I’m a professional photographer and my advice is to forget Photoshopping out backgrounds and learn to capture better pictures. They should be authentic and because your photos will probably be JPEG’s (probably from a phone) they’re likely to going to be poor quality for editing - JPEG is a lossy file format so when they’re edited and exported theyll lose even more quality.

When I sold my last car, I photographed it in front of the local cathedral as the sun was going down and it sold within three days. I’d suggest looking at PH Auctions as they use pro photographers and try and copy what they do.
