Buying a 2 year old car tomorrow need advice please
Discussion
Hi guys, hopefully someone can kindly advise as I’m pretty clueless regarding cars
I’ve reserved a 2 year old Tucson premium Automatic for my wife, paid £149 reservation fee!
It was up north so was transported down south this week, I got a confirmation it was here and just needed preparation.
The dealer changed the reservation to a transport fee, fair enough, that fee was paid by CC on purpose just as a little protection so not sure it’ll protect us now!
I’ve done a Vcheck which showed no tax, I’ll do that, but finance owed to Black horse, is that stock finance?
Also called Hyundai regarding the 36 months left on warranty,
I have a pic of the stamps which done at the correct mileage/ date so all good, but Hyundai said I need the service invoices to make sure the services were done correctly, not sure if the dealership has those until tomorrow.
Any other advice as it’s a lot of money for us £22k
Sold our old car today via Carwow, took a cheap personal loan and the rest we saved in cash!
The pcp out the door price would’ve cost us a lot more.
Anything more we need to check? Apart from obvious test drive
Thanks in advance

I'd be on the phone about the finance straight away.
Also, you will definitely need either main dealer service history (on time) or receipts showing all the correct items have been serviced using manufacturer specified parts. If not, in the event of failure, Kia / Hyundai are unlikely to entertain a claim.
Hope it all works out for you!

Cheers that’s what concerns me, I’ve phoned the service centre in Sunderland who said they’d get back to me but haven’t, that we at 4:30pm they shut at 5pm so will check again tomorrow, when I gave them the reg the guy I spoke to said he actually done the service and knew the previous owner! I’ll deal with the finance tomorrow but assume they’ve a credit line and when I buy it that gets cleared!
We missed out on a few so this was in preparation when I reserved it, got a pic of the car and the service book before I paid the reservation fee!!
I’ll try pay a lump on the cc and rest in cash debit card
Bummer is I’ve seen a few similar but they’ve gone🙄 there are a few others but a good bit dearer

Fingers crossed! WIth regards the credit card payment, have they confirmed you can pay some that way? I've always been forced to do a bank transfer as the dealers don't like sucking up the fees. Things might have changed since I last bought one though.
I know how tricky it can be to find the right spec etc., I drove 3 hours last time to get hold of a rareish petrol MPV. Then I had to do the journey again a week later to pick it up, in a part ex which wasn't in the best health

I wouldn't be trusting a dealer who pulls that one.You have an option, call your credit card company and tell them you paid for a reservation fee, not a transport fee.
Hi guys
Sorry as I’m new on PH the site restricted when I could reply again.
So we went to pick up the car, absolutely lovely, done test drive and got back to do the deal, surprise surprise no receipts or invoices for the two services done at an independent garage in the north east! I called the garage at the dealership and they said we have nothing at all for both services done!
Called Hyundai and had them on speaker with Motorpoint manager, they basically said if anything serious went wrong with the car they would require the invoice for both services done and if they were not available it would void the warranty!! So we were left with no choice, had sold our car the day before and were peeed right off!!
Managed to source another but in N line so better spec, 11k less miles full Hyundai service history and a now happy wife!!
But be warned when buying nearly new cars if they have had independent services without the invoices and receipts
Thanks to all who offered advice

When I spoke to Hyundai warranty (I spoke to three of the staff separately) after getting chatting one said we’re getting lots of issues with this same problem, buyers just see the service book stamps and assume they have the remainder of the manufacturer warranty, especially on Hyundai and Kia cars as they have longer warranty’s
Some clever law firm is going to work this out in a few years as the cars are sold with remainder of warranty

The great M########t comes up trumps yet again.
Quite incredible the amount of largely ex rental tat without any proper history and therefore voiding any warranty they continue to peddle and get away with lol.

OP well done for walking away from that one.
Presume you got your deposit back?

Yes hopefully
Not got the deposit back yet as Motorpoint manager wanted to contact Hyundai head office! He was nice as were all staff but without that warranty I couldn’t go ahead, we were gutted but I no nothing about cars so it was important and was a lot of money for us to spend on a car to be honest

We had a customer with a Ceed, for some reason an injector failed, first service was outside of Kia’s terms and no paperwork other than a stamp to back it up Kia told them to jog on. Some car supermarkets might be cheap but the chances of the manufacturer warranty being intact is very slim.
You’ll sometimes be in a similar situation with a franchised dealer, but they can often do you a letter from head office confirming the warranty is valid as they can do so by filling in a QA sheet and sending it to the importer.
Sod all chance of this outside the franchise network.
Motorpoint will no doubt be able to sell it to someone who doesn’t know any better, so won’t be that fussed.
Though at 2 years old, missed two services, was it never at a franchise?
