3-4k Cool estates
Discussion
Hi all,
I am looking for a "cool" estate, to be honest i am not really sure what i mean by cool, but you know just something nice to look at and not boring.
Got around 3-4k to spend, not to bothered about age just needs to be reliable, ideally a diesel.
I like the E90 touring's so maybe that is what i consider cool but any other suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

Saab 9-3 estate? Or even a 9-5? I don't like the look of them, but some may perceive them as cool. I've owned 2x 9-3s, a saloon and convertible, they are decent cars and lovely to drive, but obviously getting on a bit now.
I've had a couple of 9-5 estates and loved them but i wouldnt call them cool apart to other saab nerds! https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202412207...
Just had a quick scan and this Octavia vRS looks like good value to me. Looks tidy in the photos and seems as though it's been well cared for given the premium tyres fitted.

That VRS does look good value especially being a facelift model.Just had a quick scan and this Octavia vRS looks like good value to me. Looks tidy in the photos and seems as though it's been well cared for given the premium tyres fitted.
I'd also consider a Volvo V50 2.0D R Design, although non ULEZ, may possibly get into a V60 as well...
There's probably a few that would argue an estate isn't cool however this is the sort of budget I float around when it comes to the second car and it has to be an estate and not too normal... however, at that budget it's still a fairly broad remit as you could get in to some older stuff like 850 T-5's or E34's and the like, which have the retro coll thing going on but ae still "old" cars by todays standards so it really depends on your criteria.
I've had a few T-5's and always found myself looking at Legacy Spec B's and the like when I was more leaning towards the performance side of things, however had a 1998 V70's T5 just before Christmas and whilst great, it's age does hold in back in some aspects... i no isofix, usually no aircon, harder to source parts, likes a drink... and so I've just replaced an older V50 estate with an 09 plate V50 R-Design, which looks semi-respectable and it modern enough to have the basics and it's slow not hugely thirsty.
I did debate a couple of V50 T-5's before buying this as the thought of 230bhp interested me, quite cool... but also quite costly to run and ultimately I decided the increase in performance, for all it'd be used... didn't outweigh the longer benefits of a diesel and doing 50mpg. But then that's not cool... and nether is a diesel powered Volvo.
BMW 330i or similar is likely doable?

Fur coat, nae knickers, so to speak.Nice motor though.
Some argue all /most estates are cool.
^ agreed.
Tbh, you’re gonna be struggling to find estate/sub£5k/cool, and diesel all in the same sentence.
However, treat this gently and it might do. Very cool on the VW retro scene

Your spotted 3series fits the bill tbh.

I have one, it's done more than double the mileage of the above and has never let me down. The 5 cyl D5 is lovely and surprisingly economical on longer runs.

Looking at the reg, then it could have been a Volvo management type car for the first owner (I had a S40 that was registered in same are that had been) if so then only one other owner and looks a good buy.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202503290...
